World Seniors Darts announce rebrand amid wholesale changes to tour and TV events

World Seniors Darts Tour events are to be scrapped amid a string of changes in 2025, including the lowering of the age criteria. 

The World Seniors Darts Tour was launched in 2022 and featured a number of ranked floor events alongside four televised majors.

The floor events formed a key part of the qualifying criteria for the World Seniors Championship, Champion of Champions, World Seniors Matchplay and World Seniors Masters, but have now been removed from the seniors schedule.

The Amateur Darts Circuit (ADC) will take over the running of all qualifying events for the televised tournaments – which will place a greater emphasis on invites going forward.

As part of a major rebrand, the age criteria for World Seniors events has been lowered from 50 to 45, with qualifiers open to any 45+ player with an ADC membership.

In a statement posted on social media, World Seniors Darts explained: ‘From the very inception of WSDT, our vision and goal was to ensure that the legacy of the many champions that have graced the sport of darts were honoured and celebrated.

‘To this end, WSD (World Seniors Darts) will now be responsible only for the organisation of televised Seniors darts tournaments rather than a tour.

‘Each of these tournaments will feature a core cast of invited players who have a history and legacy in the sport.

‘Rivalries will be renewed, and new rivalries will be forged, as players compete for honour, prestige and Seniors TV titles.’

Jason Francis, co-founder of WSD, said: “This is a landmark announcement, and a positive move for all involved, or wanting to get involved, in the Seniors code of the sport.

“We need to remember why we created WSDT, it was to give a TV stage to allow the decorated legends of the sport to compete again, not only against each other, but also against those who win their right to be in that field, on that stage and on our screens.

“We have found a great partner to run our qualifying events in the ADC which will allow WSD to concentrate fully on developing our TV Events and growing beyond the UK.

“And the good news is if you are over 45 you can get involved now, you don’t need to wait to hit Bullseye in years anymore. Get to Reading, show us how good you are and take your place at the Tavern on TV in February.”

The 2025 World Seniors Championship will take place from February 20-22 at the Circus Tavern in Purfleet and will feature 28 players competing for glory.

The tournament will be the last to incorporate the current qualifying criteria, which includes four qualifiers from the ‘Race to the Tavern Order of Merit’.
