The World Seniors Darts Masters draws to a close in Sunderland on Saturday as the final eight face off over two sessions.
The fourth and final WSDT major of the year heads for a fascinating climax as a host of decorated darters battle it out for the title at the Nissan Sports & Leisure Complex.
Man of the moment John Henderson resumes his quest for a third WSDT televised title of the year when he faces Matt Clark in the afternoon’s quarter-finals.
Henderson has enjoyed a dominant year on the World Seniors circuit, adding the World Seniors Matchplay title to his Circus Tavern triumph, as well as a Target Open Series victory.
The popular Scotsman finished 11th on the 2024 PDC Challenge Tour Order of Merit and has featured in a number of Players Championship events this year, competing with the sport’s elite.
Henderson thrashed 2015 BDO World Champion Scott Mitchell 4-1 in Friday’s opener and now faces 1996 Lakeside quarter-finalist Clark – who came from two sets down to reel off four in a row for victory over Lisa Ashton.
Three-time BDO World Champion Martin Adams takes on former BDO Gold Cup winner Paul Hogan in another intriguing quarter-final.
Adams, runner-up in the inaugural World Seniors Championship, is the oldest player in the competition at 68 but proved that age is just a number as he whitewashed Chris Mason in Round One with a 155 checkout along the way.
Hogan is also chasing his first World Seniors televised silverware and opened up with a solid 87.5 average in a 4-1 win over former Premier League champion Glen Durrant.
Two-time World Seniors champion Robert Thornton and 2022 WDF World Champion Neil Duff go head-to-head in what promises to be a highly-charged encounter.
Thornton, who also claimed the World Seniors Matchplay title in 2022, reached the semi-finals of that same tournament in York last month and enjoyed a routine whitewash of Trina Gulliver on Friday.
Sixth seed Duff remains in hot pursuit of a maiden televised World Seniors title and began his latest campaign with a 4-1 win over former BDO World Trophy winner Darryl Fitton with an 85.8 average.
Tony O’Shea pulled off the biggest upset of the opening round as he dumped out reigning Champion of Champions Richie Howson 4-2 with the aid of four 180s.
O’Shea, who replaced Phil Taylor in the event, now looks to reach his first World Seniors semi-final at the expense of Welshman Richard Eirig-Rowlands.
Rowlands overcame debutant qualifier Andrew Kateley 4-1 in the First Round and is also bidding to enter uncharted territory by reaching what would be his first televised semi-final.
Quarter-Final matches will be contested over the best of seven sets, while Semi-Finals are best of nine and the final best of 11. All sets are the best of three legs.
