The draw for the 2025 World Seniors Championship has been confirmed, with John Henderson to launch his title defence against Mark Dudbridge or Chris Mason.
The fourth staging of the BetGoodwin World Seniors Championship will see 28 players competing for a record £50,000 top prize at the Circus Tavern in Purfleet from February 19-22.
Crowd favourite Henderson claimed the title for the first time courtesy of a 5-0 whitewash of Colin McGarry in last year’s final.
The Highlander will begin his title defence with a clash against either former world finalist Dudbridge or two-time BDO world semi-finalist Mason – who will face off in Round One.
The field is comprised of four seeds, 12 qualifiers, plus a further 12 invited players as they battle it out over four days at the former home of the PDC World Championship.
Robert Thornton, who claimed the crown in 2022 and 2023, will open up against either three-time BDO World Champion Martin Adams or former BDO World Trophy winner Darryl Fitton.
Former Lakeside World Champion Steve Beaton, who stepped away from PDC competition last month, marks his World Seniors debut with a tie against last year’s runner-up McGarry.
Former World Masters champion and two-time Lakeside finalist Mervyn King, who dropped off the PDC circuit at the end of 2024, will take on debutant qualifier Derek Coulson.
Simon Whitlock, a former European Champion and World Cup of Darts winner, is another notable newcomer to the event after losing his PDC Tour Card, and the Aussie icon will meet last year’s quarter-finalist Paul Hogan in Round One.
Former UK Open finalist Vincent van der Voort also makes the transition from the PDC ProTour to the World Seniors, and the popular Dutchman has been drawn to face former WDF World Champion Neil Duff.
A further three places in the event remain up for grabs from the three qualifying events to be held in Reading from February 1-2.
Leonard Gates, a multiple World Seniors televised title winner, awaits the winner of the First Round tie between debutant Kevin Edwards and the winner of Qualifier 3.
Three-time World Champion John Part will face 2023 World Seniors Matchplay finalist Jim McEwan, while four-time Women’s World Champion Lisa Ashton faces three-time BDO world finalist Tony O’Shea.
Ten-time Women’s World Champion Trina Gulliver will take on Scottish star Ross Montgomery – making his televised World Seniors debut.
