Ross Smith storms to second televised title at the World Series of Darts Finals
Ross Smith secured his second televised title at the 2026 World Series of Darts Finals with a crushing 11-5 win over Gerwyn Price in the final in Amsterdam on Sunday.
Smith, whose maiden major title came at the 2022 European Championship, maintained his magnificent run of form to scoop the £100,000 top prize at the AFAS Live.
A winner of two European Tour events and two Players Championship events this season, Smith had begun his challenge with consecutive ton-plus averages in dispatching Kevin Doets and Daryl Gurney.
The world number 14 then defeated Josh Rock 10-7 to kick-start his run to glory on Sunday, before punishing an out of sorts Gian van Veen to prevail 11-8 in the semi-finals.
Smith made a strong start to the final, establishing a 3-2 lead with an average just shy of 105, before Price hit back to square up the contest at five apiece.
However, Smith dominated from there on in, reeling off six straight legs with crucial checkouts of 123 and 127 along the way.
The Kent star powered in 11 maximums and ended with an average of 103.9 as he extended Price’s four-year wait for major silverware.
“I’m absolutely made up with the win, I’m just so happy,” said Smith.
“You’re playing Gerwyn Price, he’s one of the best players in the world. You’ve got to up your game, so to beat this man, wow.
“I take each game as it comes and play one game at a time. Every game I play is a final and I give it my all, and it’s working for me at the moment.
“Since the World Series, on the Euro Tour, everything has clicked since then. Sometimes you need a kick up a backside and maybe that’s what’s done it.”
Two-time champion Price was forced to settle for second prize for the fourth consecutive time in a major final since lifting this trophy back in 2022.
Having seen off Australia’s Brody Klinge and Canada’s Jim Long in the opening two rounds, the Welshman averaged 103.8 and landed a 170 checkout in a 10-7 success over James Wade on Sunday afternoon.
He then clinched six of the last seven legs and averaged 104 to dispatch his close friend and compatriot Jonny Clayton 11-7 in the semi-finals.
“I was absolutely rubbish in that final, but don’t take anything away from Ross, he was brilliant,” admitted Price.
“He took his opportunities and some big checkouts at the right time. But I’m very disappointed.
“I’m playing some good darts, I’m earning some good money – if I never win a major again I really don’t care.
“Obviously I’m gutted now I’ve lost but if I never win another major, I’ve got a good family, I’ve invested all my money – I’m doing really well.”
Earlier in the day, Clayton crushed Luke Littler’s hopes of a clean sweep of major titles in 2026 as he inflicted the world number one’s first defeat in a TV major outside the Premier League since last October.
The Welsh star punished an uncharacteristically poor display of finishing from Littler – who squandered 17 darts at doubles and ended the tournament with a checkout success of just 27 per cent.
Meanwhile, Van Veen got the better of compatriot Dirk Van Duijvenbode, reeling off four legs on the spin to prevail 10-8 including a 12-dart hold and 124 checkout on the bullseye to seal the victory.
