Peter Wright withdraws from German Darts Championship ahead of Quarter-Final with MVG
Peter Wright has withdrawn from the remainder of the 2022 German Darts Championship in Hildesheim due to a back injury.
Wright had won two matches over the weekend to reach the Quarter-Finals – where he was due to face rival Michael van Gerwen on Sunday evening.
However, the world number one had been suffering with a back injury and has subsequently pulled out of the tournament at Halle 39, meaning Van Gerwen receives a bye into the Semi-Finals.
The Dutchman will now await the winner of the tie between Michael Smith and Dimitri van den Bergh later in the evening.
Wright recovered from 4-1 down to defeat Martin Schindler 6-4 on Saturday before overcoming Krzysztof Ratajski in the Last 16 on Sunday afternoon.
Snakebite had cited back problem during last weekend’s UK Open which almost forced him to withdraw in Minehead, before he was eventually beaten by William O’Connor in the Last 16.
Wright will be hoping to recover in time for his clash with Joe Cullen on Night Six of the Premier League in Nottingham on Thursday.
