The race to secure places in the 2024 Boylesports World Grand Prix draws to a close in Basel this weekend.
The 32-player field for the Boylesports World Grand Prix will be confirmed following the Swiss Darts Trophy on Sunday.
The top 16 players on the main PDC Order of Merit will be joined by the next 16 highest ranked players from the ProTour Order of Merit in the double-in, double-out tournament in Leicester from October 7-13.
As it stands, four ProTour qualification spots remain up for grabs ahead of the cut off, with a number of big names hoping to mount a late charge.
Luke Woodhouse occupies the 16th and final ProTour qualification spot as he bids to seal a second successive appearance in the event.
With Gabriel Clemens having failed to qualify for the Swiss Darts Trophy and there unable to qualify for the World Grand Prix, Andrew Gilding represents Woodhouse’s closest challenger.
Gilding is £3,500 adrift of Woodhouse and would need to reach at least the Third Round in Basel and hope for a First Round exit for Woodhouse at the hands of Wessel Nijman.
Belgium’s Mike De Decker, 2023 World Grand Prix semi-finalist Joe Cullen and 2011 finalist Brendan Dolan are also aiming to hold down their ProTour qualification places.
Dirk van Duijvenbode, World Grand Prix runner-up in 2020, must reach at least the quarter-finals in Basel if he is to have any chance of securing a return to Leicester.
With only the world’s top eight players seeded in the draw, Damon Heta is hoping to overthrow Jonny Clayton into the world number eight spot.
Luke Littler, Cameron Menzies, Ricardo Pietreczko, Gian van Veen and Ritchie Edhouse are already assured of a debut appearance in the prestigious double-start competition.
