PDC Order of Merit following the 2026 European Championship | Ross Smith climbs to career-high ranking
Ross Smith has climbed to a career-high sixth in the PDC Order of Merit following his European Championship triumph in Dortmund on Sunday.
Smith secured his second televised ranking title four years on from his maiden European Championship victory at the Westfalenhalle to continue his incredible season.
The 37-year-old had doubled his major title tally at the World Series Finals just six weeks ago and headed in to the European Championship as number one seed after landing a brace of European Tour titles this year.
The Kent ace underlined his billing as top seed by sweeping through the field in Dortmund, defeating Karel Sedlacek, Damon Heta, Luke Woodhouse and Gerwyn Price en route to the final – where he overcame home favourite Martin Schindler 11-8 to regain the crown.
Smith’s £150,000 top prize sees him surge eight places to sixth in the PDC rankings, leapfrogging the likes of Michael van Gerwen, Josh Rock and James Wade.
Smith now sits less than £12,000 behind Jonny Clayton in fifth and £115,000 adrift of Gerwyn Price in fourth.
Meanwhile, Gian van Veen regained the world number two spot by default following Luke Humphries’ withdrawal from the European Championship through illness.
Stephen Bunting’s run to the quarter-finals saw him climb four places to ninth, with Nathan Aspinall rising one place to tenth.
Danny Noppert drops four places to 11th following his first round exit at the hands of Bunting, while Gary Anderson is down five spots to 14th after failing to qualify for the event.
Michael van Gerwen’s disastrous year continues after he suffered a fifth consecutive defeat in all competitions, meaning he falls three places to 13th – his lowest ranking position in 15 years.
Chris Dobey climbs back into the world’s top 16 despite a disappointing first round exit in Dortmund, while nine-darter hero Luke Woodhouse is also up one place to 17th after reaching the quarter-finals.
Jermaine Wattimena drops two places to 18th after his 2024 runner-up prize money was replaced by a second round exit this year.
Schindler’s fairy-tale run to a first major final sees him rise three places to 20th, with Dirk van Duijvenbode dropping two places to 22nd.
Kim Huybrechts, who took advantage of his unexpected late call-up to the event by reaching the second round, subsequently rockets nine places to 46th.
Ritchie Edhouse, who defied the odds to clinch a maiden major title at the 2024 European Championship but failed to qualify this year, loses £120,000 from his ranking tally and has tumbled 22 places to 55th.
