World Cup of Darts 2023 | Day Four Preview and Order of Play
England resume their bid for a record-breaking fifth World Cup of Darts title against host nation Germany in the quarter-finals on Sunday.
It is finals day at the Eissporthalle in Frankfurt, where the winners of the tournament’s 13th edition will be crowned at the conclusion of play.
Just eight teams remain with England one of four former winners, along with Wales, Scotland and reigning champions Australia.
Michael Smith and Rob Cross made a solid start in their 8-4 victory over Latvia on Saturday, hitting a pair of ton-plus finishes to reach their nation’s 11th quarter-final.
England have lost just one of their 10 previous matches at this stage of the competition, with Germany prevailing just once in seven attempts.
Gabriel Clemens and Martin Schindler held their nerve to edge out Krzysztof Ratajski’s Poland and are now looking to match their performance from 2020, in which they reached the last four.
Belgium are also appearing in their 11th quarter-final following that dramatic victory over the Netherlands.
Dimitri Van den Bergh and Kim Huybrechts, who was part of the side that reached the 2013 final, face Australia, with Damon Heta and Simon Whitlock seeking their nation’s sixth semi-final appearance.
Wales produced the most convincing display of the second round, Gerwyn Price and Jonny Clayton averaging just under 100 in their 8-2 win over Denmark.
The 2020 champions will be favourites to remain on course for a second title against Sweden, who are in uncharted territory in Frankfurt.
The same can be said for France after the impressive exploits of Thibault Tricole and Jacques Labre. The French pair have already taken out Northern Ireland and will hope for a repeat result against Peter Wright and Gary Anderson, who are looking to guide Scotland to a third triumph.
Play gets underway at 12pm BST at the Eissporthalle in Frankfurt on Sunday.
All quarter-final and semi-final matches will be contested over the best of 15 legs, while the best of 19 will determine the outcome of the final.
