Ukraine will have representation in the PDC World Darts Championship for the first time in 2022/23 following the announcement of an exclusive qualifier in Kyiv.

With players from Russia and Belarus still suspended from competition, a Ukrainian qualifying event will be held from October 15-16.

Players from other nations who would previously have competed in the EADC qualifier will be eligible to enter the East Europe Qualifier, which will be held in Austria on November 19.

Ukraine is a relatively uncharted darting territory, with no Ukrainian having ever featured in a PDC event, however one player will make history by taking a place in the £2.5 million event at Alexandra Palace.

The Ukraine Open and Kyiv Masters are events recognised by the WDF, with the 2019 Ukraine Open attracting entries of 87 men and 25 women.

The 2022/23 World Championship takes place from December 15 to January 3, with a series of international qualifiers joining the top 32 players from both the PDC Order of Merit and ProTour Order of Merit in the 96-player field.

So far, eight players have secured places in the World Championship, including Australia’s Raymond Smith, North American Champion Leonard Gates and Tour Card Holders Darius Labanauskas and Danny Baggish – who topped the respective PDCNB and CDC Tour rankings.

International qualifying events resume from September 22-25 with the PDC Asian Championship in Fukuoka, from which four players will progress to Ally Pally.

PDJ Japanese Qualifier winner Nobuhiro Yamamoto and Canada’s David Cameron will join Gates in making their PDC World Championship debuts.

Xicheng Han will represent China in this year’s event, with PDC China Premier League winner Xiaochen Zong declining an invitation for personal reasons.

The South West Europe Qualifier will be held in Spain on November 19, and the West Europe Qualifier will take place in Kalkar, Germany on November 26.
