Hungarian Darts Trophy 2024 | Day Two Preview and Order of Play
The top 16 seeds begin their 2024 Hungarian Darts Trophy campaigns in the Second Round in Budapest on Saturday.
Day One at the MVM Dome saw a number of big names crash out at the first hurdle, including Michael Smith, Joe Cullen and Dimitri van den Bergh.
The 16 highest ranked players from the PDC ProTour Order of Merit enter the fray on Day Two, including defending champion Dave Chisnall – who opens up with a showdown against four-time major winner Jonny Clayton.
Chisnall is challenging for back-to-back European Tour titles following his Flanders Darts Trophy triumph a fortnight ago and was runner-up in Wednesday’s Players Championship event in Wigan.
Clayton, meanwhile, was runner-up in this year’s Dutch Darts Championship and began his campaign here with a 6-3 win over Michael Smith which saw him land four 180s.
Saturday’s afternoon session sees Dutch Championship winner Josh Rock take on ten-time major champion James Wade in one of the stand-out fixtures.
Former Masters champion Chris Dobey starts his latest quest for an elusive maiden Euro Tour title with a tie against World Championship semi-finalist Scott Williams, while European Championship semi-finalist Gian van Veen meets former UK Open semi-finalist Keane Barry.
Former German Championship winner Ricardo Pietreczko opens up against Dutch left-hander Niels Zonneveld, as multiple ProTour event winner Ryan Searle meets Alberto Bezjian – the last host nation qualifier left standing in the competition.
Masters champion Stephen Bunting, runner-up to Luke Littler on the ProTour on Tuesday, takes on Norway’s Cor Dekker, while in-form Daryl Gurney meets German ace Florian Hempel – who hit back from 5-2 down to deny Callan Rydz in a decider on Friday.
International Open champion Martin Schindler comes up against former ProTour event winner Jim Williams – who thrashed Alan Soutar 6-1 with a 97.8 average in his opener.
The evening session features a clash between former World Champion Gerwyn Price and Dutch sensation Wessel Nijman – runner-up in a Players Championship event this year.
The pair met on the ProTour in midweek, with Price narrowly prevailing 6-5 after surviving a match dart from the 24-year-old.
German Championship winner Peter Wright aims to continue his superb resurgence over the past month when he takes on world number nine Damon Heta – twice a Players Championship event winner this season.
Former European Champion Ross Smith – runner-up in June’s European Darts Open – takes on five-time World Champion Raymond van Barneveld – who saw off Ritchie Edhouse 6-3 in Round One.
Michael van Gerwen looks to pick up from where he left off in winning his first PDC ranking title of the season at Players Championship 21 on Wednesday when he faces former Euro Tour finalist Martin Lukeman.
World number one Luke Humphries commences his quest for a second Euro Tour title of the season when he faces a resurgent Gabriel Clemens – who annihilated Dirk van Duijvenbode 6-1 with a 96 average on Friday.
Two familiar opponents face off once again on the European Tour as former UK Open champions Danny Noppert and Nathan Aspinall go head-to-head.
Aspinall secured his first competitive win since July as he defeated Krzysztof Ratajski 6-3 in Round One, having been sidelined for ten weeks with a shoulder injury.
Meanwhile, Baltic Sea Darts Open champion Rob Cross starts out against former UK Open champion Andrew Gilding – who landed a nine-darter on the ProTour earlier this week and defeated Van den Begrh 6-3 in Friday’s opener.
The action gets under way from 12pm BST, with Second Round ties to be contested over the best of 11 legs.
