The Hungarian Darts Trophy reaches its climax in Budapest on Sunday as the 16 remaining players face off for the title.

A £30,000 top prize is on offer at the MVM Dome as 12 seeds and four qualifiers lock horns across two sessions.

The afternoon session plays host to the Third Round ties, before the Quarter-Finals, Semi-Finals and final follow in the evening.

Dave Chisnall is bidding to become the first player to successfully defend this title, and the number one seed kicks off the afternoon’s action with a clash against Daryl Gurney.

Chisnall, who is also eyeing back-to-back European Tour titles and has won two of the last three events, began his challenge with a 6-1 rout of Jonny Clayton, averaging 101 on Saturday.

Gurney, meanwhile, battled his way to a deciding-leg victory over Germany’s Florian Hempel and will be out to avenge his defeat to Chizzy in last year’s World Championship.

Elsewhere, a rejuvenated Michael van Gerwen looks to continue his blistering spell of form when he comes up against another in-form opponent in Gabriel Clemens.

Having picked up his first PDC ranking title of the season at Players Championship 21 on Wednesday, Van Gerwen followed up by hitting a nine-darter in his 6-2 win over Martin Lukeman on Saturday with a 104.5 average.

The three-time World Champion now faces a resurgent Clemens – who followed up a 6-1 hammering of Dirk van Duijvenbode with a deciding-leg scalp of world number one Luke Humphries in Round Two to keep his hopes of World Grand Prix qualification alive.

Peter Wright steps up his quest for a second European Tour title of the season when he faces multiple ranking event winner Ryan Searle.

Wright claimed the German Darts Championship title earlier this month and has continued his impressive revival after a torrid first half of 2024, edging out Joe Cullen in a decider on Friday before whitewashing Damon Heta in the Second Round.

Searle coasted to a 6-1 rout of Host Nation qualifier Alberto Bezjian in his opener and is looking to reach his sixth Euro Tour quarter-final of the season, though he is yet to surpass that stage.

Wessel Nijman’s reward for his deciding-leg scalp of Gerwyn Price on Saturday is a showdown with World Championship semi-finalist Scott Williams in the Last 16.

The 24-year-old is appearing at this stage of a European Tour event for the first time, while Williams has pulled off narrow wins over Luke Woodhouse and Chris Dobey to also bolster his hopes of European Championship qualification next month.

Two of this season’s European Tour event winners collide as Baltic Sea Darts Open winner Rob Cross takes on Dutch Championship winner Josh Rock.

The pair have had contrasting passages through to the Last 16, with Cross coasting to a 6-1 thrashing of Andrew Gilding, while Rock remarkably survived eight match darts from James Wade to snatch victory on Saturday afternoon.

Former UK Open champion Danny Noppert faces an all-Dutch showdown with European Championship semi-finalist Gian van Veen – who averaged 100.3 in seeing off Keane Barry 6-4.

Masters champion Stephen Bunting, who defied a nine-darter from Cor Dekker in his opener, comes up against International Open champion Martin Schindler – who edged out Jim Williams in a deciding leg.

Ross Smith, conqueror of Raymond van Barneveld in Round Two, meets former German Championship winner Ricardo Pietreczko – runner-up in the Flanders Darts Trophy a fortnight ago.

The action gets under way from 12pm BST, with Third Round and Quarter-Final ties to be contested over the best of 11 legs, Semi-Finals best of 13 and the final best of 15.
