Groups E-H draw to a close at the 2024 Grand Slam of Darts on Tuesday, with four knockout places up for grabs in Wolverhampton.

After three days of gripping action, the Group Stage reaches its climax at the Aldersley Leisure Village as a host of big names aim to book their place in the knockout phase.

Day Four features no fewer than four straight shootouts as those currently in 2nd and 3rd spot in the group go head-to-head for a place in the Last 16.

One notable shootout comes in Group E as 2022 Grand Slam champion Michael Smith faces reigning World Grand Prix champion Mike De Decker.

Smith, who is defending £150,000 in prize money from his title triumph two years ago, exited in the round-robin phase in 2023 despite picking up four points, but is safe in the knowledge that a win over De Decker would see him progress.

Having beaten Mensur Suljovic 5-2 on Saturday, Smith then found himself on the wrong end of a 5-1 rout to Jermaine Wattimena, while De Decker also saw off Suljovic 5-2 to bounce back from a 5-2 defeat to Wattimena.

Wattimena has continued the blistering form which led him to the final of last month’s European Championship and will be keen to sew up top spot by subjecting the eliminated Suljovic to a third straight defeat.

Meanwhile, Group F sees UK Open champion Dimitri Van den Bergh and former UK Open semi-finalist Keane Barry collide for a place in the knockout stages.

Van den Bergh, making his first Grand Slam appearance since reaching the semi-finals back in 2020, began by thrashing Lourence Ilagan 5-1, before finding himself on the wrong end of that scoreline against a rampant Luke Littler.

Barry, who came through the Tour Card Holder qualifier to earn his debut in this event, was whitewashed by Littler on opening night but bounced back by defeating Ilagan 5-3.

Premier League champion Littler, who is averaging 110 for the tournament, aims to continue his prolific start and clinch the £3,500 group winner’s bonus by overcoming PDC Asian champion Ilagan – who cannot progress to the knockout phase.

Three-time champion Michael van Gerwen looks to secure his progression from Group G at the expense of Ryan Joyce when the pair face off in a make-or-break battle.

Van Gerwen has reached the knockout phase in each of his last 13 Grand Slam appearances and is vying to regain this title for the first time since 2017.

He began by whitewashing debutant Noa-Lynn van Leuven on Saturday, before being edge out in a deciding leg by rival Gary Anderson on Sunday night.

World Grand Prix semi-finalist Joyce recovered from 2-0 down to defeat Van Leuven 5-3 in his second group fixture but will be eyeing a marked improvement on his tournament average of 88 if he is to deny MVG a Last 16 spot.

Two-time finalist Anderson aims to sew up top spot by inflicting a third straight defeat on Van Leuven, with the Flying Scotsman having averaged 113.2 and 105.2 in two scintillating displays so far.

Group H, widely labelled as this year’s ‘Group of Death’ reaches a fitting conclusion as Josh Rock and Stephen Bunting battle it out for the right to reach the knockout phase.

Rock, who hit a nine-darter on his debut here in 2022 and was a quarter-finalist last year, averaged 105.8 in defeat to Gian van Veen on Saturday but salvaged his hopes by reeling off four consecutive legs to defeat Wessel Nijman 5-3.

Bunting, a semi-finalist here 12 months ago, averaged 103 in a narrow 5-4 win over Nijman, before running into an unstoppable Van Veen – who averaged 114.7 in sealing a 5-1 rout.

Van Veen, who also wired double 18 for a nine-darter during that incredible display, looks to continue his blistering form when he faces the already eliminated Nijman – who has averaged 106.5 and 105.4 with no points to show for his efforts.

The action gets under way from 7pm GMT, with Group Stage matches to be contested over the best of nine legs.
