The final four face off at the 2024 World Grand Prix in Leicester on Saturday as the semi-finals take centre stage.
One of the most intriguing semi-final line-ups in the 26-year history of the tournament features the defending champion alongside three players appearing at this stage of the competition for the first time.
History will be made on Sunday with either a new multiple World Grand Prix champion or a first-time winner scooping the £120,000 title.
Luke Humphries is bidding to become only the third player ever retain the title (alongside Phil Taylor and Michael van Gerwen), and has extended his unbeaten run in the double-start major to eight matches.
The world number one landed his first major title here 12 months ago, kick-starting a remarkable spell of dominance which has also seen him clinch the Grand Slam, Players Championship Finals, World Championship and World Matchplay titles.
Humphries had to survive a huge scare in the opening round as he came from a set and two legs down to stun Stephen Bunting, before defeating Ricardo Pietreczko and Jonny Clayton by 3-1 scorelines.
Standing between Humphries and a place in a sixth consecutive televised ranking final is Newcastle’s Ryan Joyce – a player appearing in only his second major semi-final.
Joyce’s first venture to this stage of a major came at the Players Championship Finals in Minehead last November – where his run was eventually halted by Humphries in an 11-3 demolition.
Joyce, a player renowned for his consistency on the outer ring, has landed around 50 per cent of his attempts at both starting and finishing doubles this week during a run which has carried him in to the world’s top 32 for the first time.
The two-time ProTour event winner swept aside Josh Rock in straight sets, before surviving three match darts in an epic against Nathan Aspinall and going on to deny Rob Cross in another dramatic deciding set.
The opening semi-final features an historic all-Belgian showdown between Dimitri van den Bergh and Mike De Decker.
The fixture marks the first time two Belgians have contested a major PDC semi-final, with both having broken new ground at the Mattioli Arena this week.
De Decker had previously never made it beyond the Last 32 of a televised ranking event but has enjoyed the best week of his career to date, securing a top 32 ranking in the process.
The four-time Development Tour event winner, who claimed his first Players Championship title this season, has transferred his clinical floor form onto the big stage to pull off a trio of terrific scalps.
Having survived a match dart against Damon Heta in Round One, he has not dropped a set since, powering past two-time World Champion Gary Anderson and two-time World Grand Prix champion James Wade.
The 28-year-old now faces his close friend, and soon to be World Cup partner, Van den Bergh for the right to become the first Belgian to reach a World Grand Prix final.
Van den Bergh is through to an eighth televised ranking semi-final and is eyeing a second major title of the season to follow up his UK Open triumph back in March.
The 30-year-old battled past Luke Woodhouse in Round One, before recording successive 3-1 wins over Dave Chisnall and Joe Cullen to mark a timely return to form on the big stage.
Victory for ‘The Dream Maker’ on Saturday would see him return to the world’s top ten and claim a place in a fifth major final since 2020.
The action gets under way from 8.30pm BST, with Semi-Final matches to be contested over the best of nine sets.
