The draw for the 2023 World Seniors Darts Championship has been confirmed, with Robert Thornton launching the defence of his title against Roland Scholten at The Circus Tavern.

The second staging of the over-50s event will feature an expanded field of 32 players competing for £200,000 in prize money at the iconic Circus Tavern in Purfleet – the former home of the PDC World Championship.

The tournament, which features a host of former World Champions, major title winners and qualifiers, will take place from February 9-12.

Thornton, the number one seed, has been drawn to face former UK Open champion Scholten – one of eight invited players in the field.

Sixteen-time World Champion Phil Taylor starts his quest for a first Seniors title with a show-down against Northern Ireland’s Colin McGarry in one of the stand-out ties of the First Round.

Three-time BDO World Champion Martin Adams, last year’s beaten finalist, will take on Durham left-hander Dave Prins, while 2015 BDO World Champion Scott Mitchell marks his Seniors debut with a tie against three-time PDC world finalist Peter Manley.

Former Premier League champion and three-time BDO World Champion Glen Durrant takes to the Seniors stage for the first time to face former PDC world finalist Mark Dudbridge.

Three-time World Champion John Part comes up against former World Cup of Darts winner Co Stompe, while four-time Women’s World Champion Lisa Ashton plays reigning WDF World Champion Neil Duff.

Ten-time Women’s World Champion Trina Gulliver MBE faces Dennis Harbour, while 1988 World Champion Bob Anderson – the oldest player in the competition – meets 2007 World Championship semi-finalist Andy Jenkins.

Multiple major finalist Terry Jenkins raises the curtain on the tournament with a tie against two-time World Championship semi-finalist Chris Mason – making his televised Seniors debut.

Former Players Champion Kevin Painter has been drawn to face former World Matchplay finalist Ronnie Baxter, with North American champion Leonard Gates up against three-time Lakeside finalist Tony O’Shea.

Keith Deller, celebrating the 40th anniversary of his infamous world title triumph, opens up against debutant qualifier Mike Huntley.

Les Wallace, the 1997 BDO World Champion, meets former World Trophy winner Darryl Fitton, while reigning World Seniors Masters champion David Cameron takes on Richie Howson – winner of back-to-back qualifying events to secure his second successive appearance at The Circus Tavern.
