The final eight battle it out in a bid to be crowned 2026 European Darts Championship king in Dortmund on Sunday.

The 19th staging of the European Championship has produced perfection, astronomical averages and upsets, now a host of in-form hopefuls aim to get their hands on the trophy at a sold-out Westfalenhalle.

Only one former champion remains in the running for a repeat triumph, with Ross Smith out to replicate his 2022 heroics at this venue.

Smith, who added the World Series Finals title to his haul last month, now comes up against Baltic Sea Darts Open champion Luke Woodhouse in the afternoon’s quarter-finals.

Top seed Smith has seen off Karel Sedlacek and Damon Heta en route to this stage and will be out to avenge his 6-1 drubbing at the hands of Woodhouse in the opening round here two years ago.

That demolition victory set Woodhouse on the path to reaching his first major semi-final, and he has continued his love affair with this event by hitting a sensational nine-darter in his first round win over Dirk van Duijvenbode, before going on to dump out defending champion Gian van Veen with a 10-6 success on Saturday.

Meanwhile, world number one Luke Littler steps up his pursuit of the career clean sweep when he takes on Polish number one Krzysztof Ratajski.

Littler has captured all ten other major silverware over a remarkable three-year period, leaving only this trophy missing from his collection.

The 19-year-old is appearing in the quarter-finals here for the first time in three attempts, having opened up with a 105 average in defeating William O’Connor 6-3, before registering the second highest average in European Championship history with a 114.47 in a 10-5 win over Nathan Aspinall on Saturday night.

Littler has won all seven of his previous meetings with Ratajski, including a five-set whitewash in the quarter-finals of last year’s World Championship en route to retaining the Sid Waddell Trophy.

Ratajski will be determined to buck that trend and pull off a seismic shock, having already dispatched Dave Chisnall and Kevin Doets to reach this stage of the competition for the first time in eight attempts.

Gerwyn Price, the 2029 European Championship runner-up, faces off against fellow Premier League star Stephen Bunting.

Price powered past two-time champion Rob Cross 6-2 in the opening round with a 99.3 average, before thrashing Cameron Menzies 10-4, and the Welsh number one is aiming to remain on course for a fourth consecutive major final appearance.

Bunting battled through a last-leg shootout to deny in-form Danny Noppert in his opener and is appearing in a first major ranking quarter-final appearance since last year’s World Matchplay after hammering Kim Huybrechts 10-3 in the Last 16.

Four-time major champion Jonny Clayton looks to spoil the party in front of a partisan crowd when he meets German number one Martin Schindler.

Clayton has come unstuck in this event in recent years, suffering two second round exits and two first round losses in his last four appearances, but has turned his fortunes around with impressive wins over Niko Springer and Josh Rock.

The number seven seed is now eyeing a first major ranking semi-final since last October’s World Grand Prix.

Schindler has seemingly put his below-par season behind him to progress to a first major ranking quarter-final in three years.

The three-time European Tour event winner has utilised home advantage once again to deny Wessel Nijman in a deciding leg and thrash 2024 runner-up Jermaine Wattimena 10-4.

The action gets under way from 12pm GMT, with quarter-final ties to be contested over the best of 19 legs, while semi-finals and the final are best of 21 legs.
