Lisa Ashton has been handed a place in the 2022 World Seniors Darts Championship alongside Larry Butler and Dave Prins.

Four-time Women’s World Champion Ashton dropped off the PDC circuit at the end of 2021 and failed to regain a Tour Card at the recent Qualifying School.

That means she is now able to compete in any non-PDC sanctioned televised tournaments and has accepted a place in the inaugural World Seniors Championship next month.

Ted Hankey recently withdrew from the competition, while Richie Burnett and Kevin Burness both secured Tour Cards at Qualifying School and are therefore ineligible to participate.

The other two vacant places in the World Seniors Championship have been filled by 1994 World Matchplay champion Butler and five-time Lakeside qualifier Prins – who was next in line following the qualifying event held in November.

The trio will join a star-studded 24-player line-up at the Circus Tavern in Purfleet from February 3-6.

The over 50s tournament, to be shown on the BBC Red Button and online, incorporates a top prize of £30,000 and features 11 former World Champions from both PDC and BDO codes, plus a further 11 invited players and two qualifiers.

The field is headed by 16-time World Champion Phil Taylor, who was the first player to be confirmed last April.

At 76, three-time World Champion John Lowe is set to be the oldest player in the line-up, ahead of 74-year-old Bob Anderson.

Wayne Warren, the 2020 BDO World Champion, will also be in action, alongside 1983 World Champion Keith Deller – who won the League of Legends event back in 2009.

Ladies legend Trina Gulliver MBE will make her return to televised action, alongside 1997 BDO World Champion Les Wallace.

John Part is one of two former PDC World Champions in action, while three-time BDO World Champion Martin Adams and 2001 Lakeside Champion John Walton also accepted their invitations.

Former PDC world finalists Kevin Painter and Peter Manley are among the wildcards, as well as crowd favourites Tony O’Shea and Terry Jenkins.

Multiple major winner Robert Thornton also features, alongside former UK Open champion Roland Scholten and Singapore legend Paul Lim.

Two-time World Masters champion Deta Hedman, former World Grand Prix champion Alan Warriner-Little and qualifier Richie Howson complete the field.

Two-time World Champion Dennis Priestley, two-time world finalist Bobby George and 2009 Women’s World Champion Francis Hoenselaar have each accepted ambassadorial roles.

The draw and schedule of play are expected to be confirmed in due course.
