WDF World Championship 2024 | Day Three Preview and Order of Play

Another action-packed double session awaits at Lakeside on Sunday as a host of players get their WDF World Championship campaign under way.

Day Three at the ‘home of world darts’ features ten matches across two sessions, with a number of familiar faces among the line-up.

Four-time Women’s World Champion Lisa Ashton kicks off her latest quest for glory with a tie against 18-year-old debutant Sophie McKinlay in the evening session.

Ashton has claimed two PDC Women’s Series titles in 2024 and was also runner-up in July’s Women’s World Matchplay, while emerging star McKinlay has picked up the Hungarian Masters and Hungarian Grand Prix titles this year.

Cliff Prior, the number 12 seed in the men’s draw, starts out in Round Two against Scott Walters – who will be eyeing a vast improvement on his match-winning average of 67.7 against Craig Brown in Round One on Friday.

Welshman Mike Gillet takes on Australian youngster Ky Smith for the right to face fifth seed Peter Machin in Round Two, while veteran Aaron Turner meets American qualifier Jeff Springer Jr, with 14th seed Barry Copeland awaiting the winner.

New Zealand’s Nicole Regnaud, the women’s number five seed, opens up against compatriot Wendy Harper – who defeated Gréta Tekauer in straight sets on Saturday.

The afternoon session includes a showdown between 13th seed Edwin Torbjornsson of Sweden and in-form Irishman Shane McGuirk – who averaged 92.8 in a straight sets rout of Mark Barilli.

Belgium’s Sybren Gijbels and Kevin Luke of the USA collide for the right to take on sixth seed Liam Maendl-Lawrance, while 21-year-old debutant James Beeton takes on Cyprus Masters winner Bradley Kirk.

Irish Open champion Lorraine Hyde takes on Japan’s Mayumi Ouchi in one of the stand-out ties of the Women’s First Round, while Paula Jacklin resumes her quest for an elusive first win on the Lakeside stage when she faces Paula Murphy of the USA.

The action gets under way from 1pm GMT, with Men’s and Women’s First Round ties to be contested over the best of three sets and Men’s Second Round ties best of five sets.
