PDC Order of Merit following the 2024 World Matchplay | Smith regains world number two spot

Michael Smith has regained the world number two spot following the 2024 World Matchplay, while Rob Cross has returned to the world’s top four.
Smith enjoyed a fine run to the Semi-Finals at the Winter Gardens in Blackpool last week – where he was denied 17-13 by Michael van Gerwen in a thrilling contest.
However, the 2023 World Champion has leapfrogged Van Gerwen into second spot on the Order of Merit and is now £100,000 clear of the Dutchman.
Van Gerwen, who won the World Matchplay in 2022, saw £100,000 drop off his Order of Merit total following defeat to Luke Humphries in this year’s final.
However, the three-time World Champion remains £360,000 clear of nearest challenger Cross – who climbed two places into fourth after reaching the quarter-finals.
Humphries’ fifth major ranking title in the space of nine months sees him extend his lead at the top of the Order of Merit to almost £600,000 as he became the 13th different winner of the Betfred World Matchplay.
Meanwhile, 2022 runner-up Gerwyn Price drops two places to sixth following his Second Round exit at the hands of Ross Smith – who climbs to a career-high world number 11.
Damon Heta has risen two places to ninth, moving above 2020 World Matchplay champion Dimitri van den Bergh and 2021 World Matchplay winner Peter Wright – who falls two places to 12th following a First Round defeat to Andrew Gilding.
Danny Noppert, semi-finals in Blackpool two years ago, drops four places to 16th after his First Round defeat to a resurgent James Wade.
Wade’s run to a ninth World Matchplay semi-final sees him surge four places to 18th, closing in on a swift return to the world’s elite top 16.
Dirk van Duijvenbode’s failure to qualify for the event means he drops three places to 20th, with Ryan Searle slipping two places to 21st and Gary Anderson down one place to 22nd.
Premier League champion Luke Littler is up one place to 24th after making his Matchplay debut, while fellow Blackpool newcomer Ritchie Edhouse climbs two places to 44th.
Rowby-John Rodriguez drops out of the world’s top 64 after his failure to qualify two years on from reaching the Last 16.
