The race to reach the 2021 World Grand Prix culminates at the Gibraltar Darts Trophy this weekend.

The 32-player field for the double-start major will be confirmed following the season’s second European Tour event on Sunday September 26.

The top 16 players in the main PDC Order of Merit will be joined in the event by the next highest ranked 16 players from the ProTour Order of Merit.

This year’s World Grand Prix will be held for the first time at the Morningside Arena in Leicester from October 3-9.

As it stands, Mensur Suljovic occupies the 16th and final qualification spot via the ProTour Order of Merit, £250 clear of Ryan Joyce and Chris Dobey – neither of whom will feature in the Gibraltar Trophy and are therefore unable to qualify for the Grand Prix.

Martin Schindler is Suljovic’s nearest live challenger, with the German needing to reach at least the Quarter-Finals in Gibraltar if he is to leapfrog The Gentle.

Damon Heta, Luke Humphries, Ross Smith, Callan Rydz, Martijn Kleermaker and Darius Labanauskas all are in line to make their World Grand Prix debuts in 2021.

Stephen Bunting occupies 16th spot on the main Order of Merit, less than £2,000 adrift of Glen Durrant and £4,000 clear of Daryl Gurney.

Only the top eight players on the Order of Merit are seeded in the 2021 World Grand Prix, with Dimitri Van den Bergh and Jose De Sousa set to be seeded for the first time.

The Gibraltar Darts Trophy runs from September 24-26 and will also be the final event to count towards qualification for next month’s European Championship through the European Order of Merit.
