Luke Humphries and Luke Littler will renew their rivalry in the final of the 2025 World Grand Prix after seeing off Danny Noppert and Jonny Clayton in Saturday’s semi-finals.

The world’s top two ranked stars stormed into the final of the prestigious double-start major courtesy of clinical displays at the Mattioli Arena in Leicester.

Humphries progressed to a third consecutive World Grand Prix final courtesy of a 5-3 victory over Dutch number two Noppert.

The world number one raced to the opening set with checkouts of 155 and 108 along the way, before recovering from two legs down to snatch the second set courtesy of a 72 finish on the bull.

Humphries then blitzed through the third set without reply, before Noppert stopped the rot to open his account in set four.

A timely 13-darter in the deciding leg of the fifth set saw Humphries extend his lead to 4-1, but Noppert dug deep to clinch successive sets and close the gap to one.

Humphries, however, quashed any hopes of a comeback as he landed checkouts of 135 and 110 in sealing victory.

“It was a great game,” said Humphries, who joins Phil Taylor and Michael van Gerwen in reaching three consecutive World Grand Prix finals.

“I thought we both played really well. Danny pushed me all the way and I got a little frustrated at myself, but I came out fired up in the eighth set and it seemed to work.

“I knew it was going to be a battle but I’m proud of the resilience I showed tonight, and it’s a great achievement for myself to match Michael and Phil.

“Some people question my mentality at times, but I can bounce back from difficult moments, and I think the break at 4-3 did me the world of good.”

Following the drama of his quarter-final victory over Gerwyn Price on Friday, Littler’s charge to the final proved more straightforward as he brushed aside 2021 champion Clayton 5-1.

The reigning World Champion set the tone with a stunning 161 checkout on his way to the clinching opening set before taking out 89 to wrap up the second and double his advantage.

Clayton hit back superbly with checkouts of 154 and 128 to halve the deficit, but a huge moment in the contest saw Littler land a remarkable 140 checkout in the deciding leg of the fourth set with the Welshman poised on double 16.

Littler then breezed through the following set in three straight legs before repeating the feat in the sixth to seal victory with a 13-darter.

“I’m very happy with the performance and the stats showed it there – both a good in and out doubles percentage,” said Littler.

“That 140 was the main moment though, going in at 3-1 definitely settled me more. That 140 killed off Jonny a little – I am just really glad to get into the final.

“I definitely owe Luke one for the Premier League, but he has a very good record here.

“For me, it’s all new. Last year I lost in the first round of the Matchplay and this year I won it, and last year here I lost in the first round and now I’m in the final.

“Hopefully I can get the win tomorrow and then I will be on Luke’s back even more for the number one spot.”
