Luke Littler claims Premier League Darts Night Two glory in Glasgow
Luke Littler claimed his first title of the season on Night Two of 2025 Premier League Darts in Glasgow, denying Luke Humphries in a last-leg decider.
The reigning Premier League champion held his nerve in a final marred by crowd whistling to end Humphries’ unbeaten start to the tournament.
Humphries looked to be heading for a second successive weekly title when he led 5-4, but only for Littler to hit back with consecutive legs to clinch the £10,000 bonus.
Littler was denied by an inspired Michael van Gerwen on opening night in Belfast despite averaging just shy of 114, but the 18-year-old returned to winning ways in style at the OVO Hydro, defeating a trio of World Champions in Rob Cross, Michael van Gerwen and Humphries to pick up all five points.
The night began in dramatic fashion for ‘The Nuke’ as he sensationally overturned a 5-1 deficit to Cross and survived three match darts before snatching a 6-5 victory with a 104 average.
The newly-crowned World Champion then ran out an emphatic 6-2 winner over Van Gerwen in the semi-finals, avenging his defeat to the Dutchman last Thursday.
The opening two legs of the final were shared, before Littler landed a magnificent 170 checkout in leg three to move in front.
Following a run of eight consecutive hold of throw, Humphries then broke Littler to move a leg away from glory, with Littler missing a dart at double ten amid a barrage of whistling from the crowd.
Littler, however, recovered superbly to fire in legs of 11 and 13 darts to seal victory with a 101 average.
“It was a weird final,” admitted Littler. “We both weren’t playing well. I was looking up at the screen and we both had a 90 average.
“Obviously the crowd got involved. Kirk (Bevins) made them worse and I missed my shot and Luke went 5-4 up.
“I did well to hit a ten-darter and an 11-darter, that’s crucial.
“The Pro Tour was good match practice. I used the gold darts and came back here and used them.
“Throwing really well in practice and was 5-1 down to Rob Cross, I just had to pull it out the bag and I did.”
Humphries extended his unbeaten run to five matches as he saw off Chris Dobey and Gerwyn Price, but fell narrowly short of making it back-to-back weekly titles.
The world number one twice recovered from 4-2 down en route to the final, powering in legs of 11, 14, 12 and 12 darts to defeat Dobey with a 106 average, before repeating the feat against Price with a 102 average, five 180s and two ton-plus finishes.
Price opened his account for the tournament with a hard-fought 6-4 win over Nathan Aspinall in a match which featured four ton-plus checkouts.
Van Gerwen, meanwhile, produced the performance of the night in his 6-1 rout of Stephen Bunting, averaging 109 to subject Bunting to a second successive quarter-final defeat.
