Poland Darts Masters 2025 | Day One Preview and Order of Play
The 2025 Poland Darts Masters gets under way in Gliwice on Friday as the PDC stars and regional representatives meet in Round One.
The fifth World Series event of the year sees eight PDC stars and eight regional representatives battling it out at the PreZero Arena from July 4-5.
Reigning champion Luke Littler launches the defence of his title with a clash against Czech number one Karel Sedlacek on opening night.
Littler, who claimed three World Series titles last year, including the World Series Finals, is bidding to secure his first World Series silverware of 2025 following a series of early exits.
The 18-year-old has suffered quarter-final defeats to Nathan Aspinall in each of his last two World Series outings, and the pair are on a collision course to meet at the same stage of this competition.
Sedlacek was one of the stand-out performers at the recent World Cup of Darts as he guided Czechia to the quarter-finals, and he has also reached the quarter-finals of a European Tour event this season.
Aspinall is aiming to go one better than his runner-up spot at the US Masters in New York last weekend, and he starts out against home favourite Radek Szaganski.
Szaganski is one of five Polish players in the field and notably clinched a Players Championship title back in 2023.
Michael van Gerwen steps up his competitive return with a tie against Croatia’s Pero Ljubic – a player with just three wins on the ProTour to his name this season.
Van Gerwen returned to the big stage in New York following a month-long break for personal reasons, and was beaten 6-3 by Gerwyn Price in the quarter-finals.
Price, runner-up in January’s Bahrain Masters and a five-time World Series event winner, faces a showdown against emerging talent Sebastian Bialecki.
Price was denied by eventual champion Luke Humphries in the semi-finals at Madison Square Garden last Saturday and will be keen to continue his fine form when he faces the 21-year-old Pole – a six-time Development Tour event winner.
Top seed Stephen Bunting, the reigning Bahrain Masters and Nordic Masters champion, comes up against Tour Card holder Tytus Kanik.
Bunting will be out to bounce back from his shock first round defeat to Jason Brandon at the US Masters and faces an opponent for whom wins have proven few and far between on the ProTour this season.
Former World Champion Rob Cross is also vying to bounce back from a shock early exit in New York when he takes on Krzysztof Kciuk.
Cross was unceremoniously dethroned as defending champion with a 6-0 whitewash at the hands of Danny Lauby and is looking to go one better than his runner-up spot here 12 months ago.
Two-time World Championship qualifier Kciuk came through the Polish qualifier to secure his spot in this event, fending off a field of 158 players to reach the main draw.
Polish number one Krzysztof Ratajski looks to raise the roof at a sold-out PreZero Arena as he faces multiple major winner Jonny Clayton.
Despite dropping out of the world’s top 32, Ratajski has picked up a Players Championship title this year and remains in the running for a place in the upcoming World Matchplay.
World number five Clayton was runner-up in the recent World Cup of Darts alongside Gerwyn Price for Wales and is targeting a first World Series title since 2022.
The opening match of the night sees former Masters champion Chris Dobey take on Hungarian qualifier Gyorgy Jehirszki.
Semi-finalist at the World Championship, Dobey finished sixth on his Premier League return and already has two ProTour titles under his belt in 2025.
Jehirszki was thrashed 6-1 by Humphries in last year’s Poland Masters and returns having won through the Hungarian Qualifier back in May.
The action gets under way from 6pm BST, with first round matches to be contested over the best of 11 legs.
