The second round action commences at the Players Championship Finals in Minehead on Saturday as a host of big names bid to keep their title challenge on track.

The opening day of the season’s penultimate major saw 64 players become 32, with reigning champion Luke Humphries and former finalist Jonny Clayton among the notable early casualties.

Saturday sees the second round ties take place across two stages in the afternoon session, before the Last 16 gets under way in the evening.

World number one Luke Littler steps up his quest for a sixth major ranking title of 2025 when he takes on former European Champion Ross Smith.

Only the Players Championship Finals, World Masters and European Championship titles are missing from Littler’s CV, and the 18-year-old will be determined to continue his pulsating run of form and go one better than last year’s runner-up spot.

Littler picked up from where he left off in Wolverhampton last weekend by averaging 104.5 in a 6-1 rout of Jeffrey De Graaf on Friday night, a staggering 20 points higher than Smith – who defeated late call-up Ryan Meikle by the same scoreline.

The Main Stage line-up commences with a tie between world number four Stephen Bunting and 2018 Players Champion Daryl Gurney.

Having ended a nine-month wait for a win in a televised ranking event, 2021 champion Peter Wright now comes up against this year’s UK Open and World Matchplay runner-up James Wade.

Gerwyn Price, the 2019 runner-up and a semi-finalist in last week’s Grand Slam, comes up against Players Championship event winner Sebastian Bialecki – who dumped out 2022 finalist Rob Cross in Round One.

European Champion Gian van Veen looks to follow up his magnificent comeback win over Humphries from 3-0 down when he meets Polish number one – Krzysztof Ratajski.

Two-time major winner Nathan Aspinall comes up against Dutch ace Richard Veenstra – who defied a 102 average from second seed Wessel Nijman to prevail in a deciding leg on Friday.

World Cup of Darts winner Josh Rock and former World Championship semi-finalist Scott Williams put their close friendship to one side when they go head-to-head in the final match of the afternoon.

Stage Two sees 2014 Players Champion Gary Anderson take on former European Tour event winner Ricardo Pietreczko, while 2021 runner-up Ryan Searle meets former World Championship quarter-finalist Callan Rydz in another tasty tussle.

Former World Youth champion Bradley Brooks takes on debutant Adam Lipscombe – who thrashed Cameron Menzies 6-1 in Friday’s opener.

Jermaine Wattimena, twice a Players Championship event winner this year, takes on Ryan Joyce – who reached the semi-finals of this event two years ago.

European Tour event finalist Luke Woodhouse faces James Hurrell – who knocked out former finalist Clayton on the Main Stage, while local favourite Justin Hood aims to follow up Friday’s scalp of Damon Heta when he plays former UK Open champion Andrew Gilding.

Danny Noppert, a four-time major semi-finalist this year, looks to maintain his blistering run of form when he meets Latvian ace Madars Razma – who dispatched Dirk van Duijvenbode in Round One.

World Championship semi-finalist Chris Dobey comes up against Development Tour Order of Merit winner Cam Crabtree, while German number one Martin Schindler meets Welsh ace Nick Kenny.

The action gets under way from 1pm GMT, with second round ties to be contested over the best of 11 legs and Last 16 ties best of 19 legs.
