The 2020/21 World Darts Championship will take place at London’s Alexandra Palace from December 15 to January 3, with the possibility of fans in attendance.

The sport’s show-piece event will see 96 players competing over 28 sessions across 16 days for £2.5 million in prize money.

Following the UK government’s announcement on Monday of their post-lockdown plans in England from December 2 onwards, the PDC will now be working with Alexandra Palace to explore the potential for fans to attend the event.

Should London be placed into the Tier 2 system, up to 1,000 fans could be welcomed to Ally Pally for each session of the greatest show on planet darts.

In a change to recent years, the final will be held on Sunday January 3, with the Quarter-Finals on New Year’s Day and the Semi-Finals the following day.

The World Championship’s opening nine days at Alexandra Palace from December 15 until the Christmas break will see the first and second rounds take place.

The action will resume with the third and fourth rounds across four days between Christmas and New Year, with play from December 27-30.

The world’s top 32 players will enter the tournament at the second round stage, with Round One featuring the 32 qualifiers from the ProTour Order of Merit coming up against 32 international representatives.

Peter Wright is looking to successfully retain the Sid Waddell Trophy, having defeated world number one Michael van Gerwen 7-3 in the 2020 final.

The draw for the World Darts Championship will be made on Thursday December 3 live on Sky Sports News, with the field being confirmed on Monday November 30 following the PDC Tour Card Holder Qualifier event in Coventry.

Session times for the World Championship, as well as potential ticket details, are to be confirmed in due course.
