Gerwyn Price gets his quest for a second World Championship title under way on Monday night, while a host of other international stars are in action.

Seven different nations will be represented in a high quality line-up on Day Four at Alexandra Palace, with former World Champion Price topping the bill against debutant Connor Scutt.

Price, who lifted the Sid Waddell trophy behind closed doors in 2021, is bidding to become the first multiple Welsh World Champion and end a two-year wait for a major televised ranking title.

The world number five has finished runner-up in the Premier League and World Grand Prix this year, while also claiming a second World Cup of Darts title alongside Jonny Clayton.

He returns to Ally Pally looking to atone for last year’s crushing 5-1 defeat to Gabriel Clemens in the Quarter-Finals – in which he attempted to cancel out the barrage of abuse from the crowd by wearing ear defenders midway through the match.

Price will be wary of the threat posed by Scutt – who averaged 96 in an eye-catching 3-0 win over Poland’s Krzysztof Kciuk on Saturday.

Scutt, runner-up in a Players Championship event this year, landed five 180s and 64 per cent on the doubles to mark a dream debut, and the 27-year-old is now gearing up for the biggest match of his career as he bids to pull off a huge scalp.

Meanwhile, emerging Dutch star Gian van Veen gets his maiden World Championship campaign under way with a tie against Hong Kong’s Man Lok Leung.

Van Veen heads to Ally for the first time on the back of a sensational breakthrough season which has seen him reach the Semi-Finals of the European Championship, as well as the World Youth Championship final to climb into the world’s top 50.

The 21-year-old has also stormed to six Development Tour titles in 2023 to top the Order of Merit and will have his sights set on a Second Round clash with last year’s semi-finalist Gabriel Clemens.

Leung, 24, has racked up a hat-trick of PDC Asian Tour titles in 2023 and also featured in January’s Bahrain Masters, losing out 6-3 to Luke Humphries.

The opening match of the night sees Belgian veteran Mario Vandenbogaerde take on French tungsten talisman Thibault Tricole.

Vandenbogaerde reached the Semi-Finals of the BDO World Championship in 2020 and is making his Ally Pally debut at the age of 50 following a consistent showing on the ProTour this year, but is battling to hold on to his tour card, with a win here carrying him into the all-important top 64.

Tricole was runner-up in last year’s WDF World Championship at Lakeside and is making history as the first Frenchman to compete in the PDC World Championship, having led France to the Quarter-Finals of the World Cup of Darts this summer.

Martin Lukeman kicks off his second World Championship campaign with a tie against New Zealand’s Haupai Puha.

Lukeman reached the final of a European Tour event in 2022, as well as the Quarter-Finals of the World Grand Prix, and is now on the verge of entering the world’s top 32.

Puha claimed the Oceanic Masters title in October to secure his place in a second PDC World Championship and has been a regular fixture in World Series events in recent years.

The action gets under way from 7pm GMT, with First Round and Second Round matches to be contested over the best five sets, best of five legs per set.

The tie break rule does not apply to First Round matches, meaning the fifth leg of a deciding set would be sudden death, while the final set in matches from Round Two onwards must be won by two clear legs, unless the score reaches 5-5, in which case a sudden-death leg will be played.
