Darts Rich List | The top 13 all-time richest darts players ranked
The PDC confirmed the biggest prize money increase in history at the beginning of the year and the sport continues to grow in population.
Following on from the £1m up for grabs for the winner of the World Championship there is now a total prize in excess of £25m and there is no shortage of darters hungry for success.
Lucrative TV deals and an ever-expanding tour has taken darts to a new level and, with Luke Littler the driving force behind the game’s rise, the riches are expected to increase further in the coming years.
We take a look at the top 13 richest darts players in PDC history.
13. Jonny Clayton (£3m)
A former council worker, Jonny Clayton has struck gold in the PDC. The Welshman has won 17 PDC titles, including the Masters, World Grand Prix and Premier League and a string of consistent performances in high-profile events has kept the cash flowing in for the former World Cup winner.
12. Dave Chisnall (£3.5m)
Arguably the best player never to win a major PDC title, but that hasn’t stopped Dave Chisnall coining it in. Chizzy has used Players Championship and European Tours as a cash cow for many years and the St Helens man is another popular performer with the exhibition crowds.
11. Rob Cross (£4m)
A feature of the lucrative Premier League and invitational World Series events Rob Cross has filled the bank. The 2018 world champion has claimed four major titles and Voltage has given power to his bank balance.
10. Raymond van Barneveld (£4.2m)
Raymond van Barneveld is a four-time BDO world champion and a former PDC king and, while the Dutchman did his winning before the boom, Barney has been one of the sport’s most popular performers. The sponsorships, exhibitions and appearances have rolled in and so has the cash.
9. Michael Smith (£4.3m)
A former world number one and world champion Michael Smith has earned plenty of prize money during his career. Bully Boy signed a lucrative deal with darts manufacturer Shot and, while the St Helens man has struggled to find his best form in recent times, the cash has been banked.
8. Luke Humphries (£4.5m)
The first player to bank more than £2,000,000 prize money in a single season, 2024 world champion Luke Humphries has won nearly every major prize in darts. Cool Hand won last season’s Premier League and the former long-time world number one has prize money to thank as the major driver of his wealth.
7. Gerwyn Price (£4.5m)
The Iceman has pocketed a cool £521,000 in prize money over the last two years and the former World Champion has earned plenty from major tournament victories. Away from darts, Gerwyn Price has a string of business interests including a fish and chip shop in his home town of Markham.
6. Luke Littler (£5m)
Luke Littler has banked £2,770,500 prize money in the last two seasons and his career earnings are already over £3,500,000. The Nuke has a number of sponsorships and you name it, there is a Littler branded item for it. The 19-year-old has aligned a whole new audience to darts and the already two-time world champion has reaped the rewards.
5. James Wade (£5m)
A seven-time major winner and the owner of 40 PDC titles James Wade has been a winning machine. Still competing to a high level the Machine has banked a further £544,250 in prize money over the last two years.
4. Gary Anderson (£5.5m)
Third to only Michael van Gerwen and Phil Taylor with 55 PDC titles, Gary Anderson has made it pay by winning two PDC World Championship, a World Matchplay and a pair of Premier League titles. Unicorn’s star performer has also enjoyed significant sponsorship and lucrative deals.
3. Peter Wright (£6.5m)
Peter Wright’s career has spanned 30 years and Snakebite has timed his run well. Wright won the 2020 and 2022 World Championship, 2021 World Matchplay and Grand Slam and the 2023 European Championship amongst other titles. Snakebite has struck when the prizes have grown and there is plenty of sponsorship earnings for the popular Scot.
2. Phil Taylor (£8.5m)
The winning-most darts player of all-time, Phil Taylor was a 16-time world champion and winner of 214 professional tournaments. That record is unrivalled, but Taylor’s success started before the darts boom and that keeps him off top spot.
1. Michael van Gerwen (£11.5m)
A three-time world champion and a winner of 160 PDC titles in his professional career, Michael van Gerwen is a money-making Green Machine. Not only has Mighty Mike coined in the prize money, the Dutchman was the most recognisable figure in darts for many years and has huge earnings from sponsorship, exhibitions and endorsements.
