Raymond van Barneveld pulled off an impressive win over Gerwyn Price in round two of the European Darts Grand Prix on Saturday, as Dirk van Duijvenbode dispatched Michael van Gerwen.

Nine seeds were sent packing on a day of shocks in Sindelfingen, with Van Barneveld playing his part by ending a three-year wait for a win over Price.

Van Barneveld had trailed 5-4 and survived a match dart from the Welshman, before breaking throw to force a decider and closing out victory on tops to book his place in Sunday’s Last 16.

Van Duijvenbode, meanwhile, averaged 101.5 in a 6-3 victory over fellow Dutch star Van Gerwen with the aid of five 180s to continue his resurgent run of form.

Van Duijvenbode will meet Martin Schindler in the Last 16 after last week’s Austrian Open champion began his bid for back-to-back European Tour titles with a comeback victory over Josh Rock.

Rock led 3-1 and 4-2, but a terrific ten-darter from Schindler levelled during a run of four straight legs clinched a crowd-pleasing win.

Meanwhile, Gary Anderson began the defence of his European Darts Grand Prix title in style with a thrilling last-leg victory over Gian van Veen.

Anderson had taken glory at the Glaspalast in 2024, and returned to action on the European Tour with a 110 average – aided by nine 180s – to see off World Youth Champion Van Veen in a decider.

The Dutch ace opened their second round tie with a 142 checkout, and he also took out 120 and 88 to move 5-3 up – only for Anderson to sweep to victory with legs of 14, 11 and 14 darts.

Anderson will now play another former World Champion, Rob Cross, in Sunday afternoon’s third round, after ‘Voltage’ punished 14 missed darts at doubles from Mike De Decker to prevail 6-3.

World number one Luke Humphries marked his return to Euro Tour action with a 6-1 hammering of Connor Scutt.

Humphries now faces six-time European Tour event winner Michael Smith in the Last 16, after the St Helens ace came from 3-0 and 5-2 down to snatch victory over Germany’s Daniel Klose – who squandered two match darts.

James Wade converted six doubles from ten attempts as he saw off Joe Cullen 6-4 to progress to a meeting with Niels Zonneveld following the Dutch left-hander’s commanding 6-2 win over a below-par Nathan Aspinall.

Chris Dobey was another Premier League star to crash out in round two as he went down 6-4 to Luke Woodhouse.

Ross Smith, last week’s Austrian Darts Open runner-up, finished six doubles from nine attempts as he pulled clear from three-all to defeat Dave Chisnall.

Danny Noppert recovered from 2-0 and 5-3 down to snatch a narrow 6-5 win over compatriot Wessel Nijman, and he now meets Andrew Gilding in a clash of former UK Open champions after the Englishman defied checkouts of 160 and 135 from Jonny Clayton to prevail in a deciding leg.

Grand Slam runner-up Martin Lukeman reeled off five straight legs to wrap up a 6-2 win over sixth seed Damon Heta.

Peter Wright began his latest bid for a tenth European Tour title with a 6-4 win over home hopeful Leon Weber, averaging 105.3 and landing five 180s.

Wright now faces an all-Scottish clash with Cameron Menzies – who defied a ton-plus average from Stephen Bunting to punish a staggering 14 missed darts at doubles from the International Open champion and prevail 6-2.
