The seeded players get their Gibraltar Darts Trophy campaigns under way on Saturday as the Second Round action takes centre stage.

The top 16 players from the ProTour Order of Merit (as of July 26) are seeded in the draw and will each face one of Friday’s winning qualifiers.

Following this weekend’s event, the top 32 players on the European Order of Merit will qualify for the European Championship in Dortmund later this month.

A repeat of last year’s Gibraltar Trophy final sees defending champion Gerwyn Price take on Mensur Suljovic in the evening session.

Price stormed to an 8-0 whitewash of the Austrian to claim this title for the first time, and having been displaced as world number one following the recent World Grand Prix, ‘The Ice Man’ will be keen to stamp his authority once again.

Suljovic marked his Euro Tour return with an emphatic 6-0 whitewash of Keegan Brown in Round One, averaging 101.3 in the process.

Michael van Gerwen launches his quest for a fourth Gibraltar Trophy title with a clash against 2014 finalist Steve Beaton.

Van Gerwen comes into this event fresh from securing a sixth World Grand Prix crown in Leicester last weekend and also has three European Tour triumphs to his name this term.

Beaton, who is vying to retain his Tour Card at the end of the season and compete for a place in the World Championship, received a bye in Round One following the withdrawal of Host Nation qualifier Justin Hewitt.

Craig Galliano is Gibraltar’s last remaining hope in the competition, and the 20-year-old is gearing up for the biggest night of his career so far as he faces reigning World Champion Peter Wright.

Wright, who recently returned to the top of the Order of Merit, ended his Euro Tour drought by winning the German Darts Open last month and will be out to avoid a major upset at the hands of the Development Tour star – who defeated Mario Vandenbogaerde 6-2 on Friday afternoon.

Top seed Luke Humphries, who became a father for the first time in midweek, returns to action to face Belgian youngster Kenny Neyens.

World Grand Prix runner-up Nathan Aspinall comes up against former UK Open finalist Vincent van der Voort – who could secure a European Championship spot with a win in the afternoon session.

Two former ProTour event winners collide as Damon Heta takes on Chris Dobey – whose win over Dylan Duo Jr on Friday moved him into the provisional qualification places for the European Championship.

Dirk van Duijvenbode, the World Series Finals and Dutch Masters runner-up this season, opens up against Tour Card holder qualifier Jason Lowe, while UK Open champion Danny Noppert meets former ProTour event winner Ryan Joyce.

Dave Chisnall, the recent Belgian Open winner, starts his pursuit of back-to-back Euro Tour titles with a tie against Dutch qualifier Wesley Plaisier – who whitewashed Jeff Smith on Friday to move within £1,000 of the European Championship places.

European Champion Rob Cross, a three-time runner-up on the Euro Tour this year, faces Austrian youngster Rusty-Jake Rodriguez – whose brother Rowby-John plays former Grand Slam champion Jose de Sousa.

Eighth seed Ryan Searle starts out against Hungarian Trophy finalist William O’Connor – who remains in hot pursuit of a European Championship spot after thrashing Jim Williams 6-1 on Friday.

A mouth-watering clash to kick off the evening session sees US Masters champion Michael Smith take on 2022 World Youth finalist and multiple Development Tour winner – Josh Rock.

Premier League star Jonny Clayton faces a tough opener against former Lakeside World Champion Stephen Bunting – who averaged 105.3 in a sublime 6-3 win over Daryl Gurney in Round One.

Masters champion Joe Cullen, the number 11 seed, takes on Ritchie Edhouse – who overcame John Henderson in his opener, while two-time Euro Tour finalist this season Dimitri Van den Bergh plays German number one Gabriel Clemens.

The action gets under way from 12pm BST, with Second Round matches to be contested over the best of 11 legs.
