German Darts Championship 2025 | Day Two Preview and Order of Play
The seeded stars begin their German Darts Championship campaigns on Saturday as the Second Round action takes place in Hildesheim.
Day One of the season’s final European Tour event saw former major winners including Joe Cullen, Daryl Gurney and Andrew Gilding suffer early exits.
The race to reach the European Championship dominates the narrative this weekend, with seven places still to be confirmed for next week’s showpiece in Dortmund.
Dave Chisnall leads the chasing pack, £3,000 adrift of the final qualification spot, and must defeat Gabriel Clemens in order to keep his hopes alive.
Victory for Chisnall over the former World Championship semi-finalist would see him leapfrog Gilding into 32nd spot, though the multiple major finalist has endured a torrid year which has included eight consecutive second round exits on the European Tour.
William O’Connor sits £1,000 behind Chisnall and faces a tall order if he is to gatecrash the European Championship, needing to reach at least the semi-final stage on Sunday.
O’Connor, who overcame Gilding 6-4 on Friday, now takes on home favourite Martin Schindler – the German number one and a winner of three European Tour titles.
Rob Cross has his European Championship destiny in his own hands, knowing that a win over recent World Grand Prix quarter-finalist Cameron Menzies would effectively clinch qualification.
The same scenario applies to Polish number one Krzysztof Ratajski – who takes on fellow multiple ranking event winner Ryan Searle in the afternoon session.
Raymond van Barneveld is all but assured of a place in the European Championship ahead of his showdown with 2025 Dutch Championship winner Jonny Clayton.
Jermaine Wattimena, twice a Players Championship event winner this season, looks to continue his blistering run of form when he takes on UK Open and World Matchplay runner-up James Wade.
Dirk van Duijvenbode raised the roof at Halle 39 with a sensational nine-darter in his first round win over Karel Sedlacek on Friday night, and the popular Dutchman looks to continue his heroics when he meets Premier League star Chris Dobey.
Top seed Stephen Bunting begins his bid for a third European Tour title of the year with a tie against former World Grand Prix semi-finalist Ryan Joyce in the final match of the evening.
Gerwyn Price, Baltic Sea Darts Open champion earlier this year, starts out against former Lakeside Champion Christian Kist – who dumped out Gurney in Round One.
World Cup of Darts winner Josh Rock, twice a runner-up on the European Tour this term, meets ‘Rapid’ Ricky Evans – who overcame Cullen in his opener after receiving a late call-up via the reserve list.
An all-Dutch showdown to kick off the day’s action sees World Youth Championship finalist Gian van Veen take on dangerous left-hander Niels Zonneveld.
Nathan Aspinall looks to consolidate his position at the top of the European Order of Merit as he bids to be number one seed in Dortmund, and ‘The Asp’ faces a showdown with Austrian Open runner-up Ross Smith.
Reigning champion Peter Wright kicks off his title defence with a tie against home hero Ricardo Pietreczko – who famously triumphed here two years ago.
Meanwhile, the two most European Tour runners-up go head-to-head as Hungarian Trophy finalist Danny Noppert faces Swiss Trophy finalist Luke Woodhouse.
Mike De Decker, who saw his reign as World Grand Prix champion brought to an end last week, faces a tough opener in Hildesheim against ProTour event winner Wessel Nijman.
Seventh seed Damon Heta opens up against Republic of Ireland’s Steve Lennon – who enjoyed an impressive 6-2 win over Jeffrey De Graaf with a 97 average on Friday.
The action gets under way from 12pm BST, with Second Round ties to be contested over the best of 11 legs.
