The 2024 German Darts Championship gets under way in Hildesheim on Friday as the qualifiers face off in Round One.
European Tour action returns with the ninth of 13 events this season featuring 48 players battling it out at Halle 39 from August 30 to September 1.
The top 16 players in the PDC Order of Merit qualify automatically alongside the 16 highest ranked players on the PDC ProTour Order of Merit – who are seeded in the draw and enter in Saturday’s Second Round.
Among the stand-out First Round ties sees five-time World Champion Raymond van Barneveld – winner of a Players Championship event this year – take on emerging star Dom Taylor in the evening session.
Reigning European Champion Peter Wright looks to avert a potential scalp at the hands of German ace Niko Springer – one of four Host Nation qualifiers in this weekend’s field.
Max Hopp, a former European Tour event winner, marks his return to the big stage for the first time in over two years with a tie against former Grand Slam champion Jose De Sousa.
Ten-time major winner James Wade looks to continue his recent resurgence when he comes up against Dutchman Maik Kuivenhoven, while recent World Matchplay debutants Ritchie Edhouse and Luke Woodhouse also collide.
Four-time major winner Jonny Clayton faces a tricky opening tie against former Euro Tour finalist Martin Lukeman, as former World Cup of Darts winner and World Championship finalist Simon Whitlock meets three-time ProTour event winner – Callan Rydz.
Reigning UK Open champion Dimitri van den Bergh faces a gruelling opener against former Champions League of Darts winner Mensur Suljovic – one of four players to receive a late call-up via the Reserve List.
Also looking to take advantage of an unexpected call-up is 21-year-old Irish left-hander Dylan Slevin as he takes on former Lakeside Champion Steve Beaton – aiming to boost his hopes of World Championship qualification in his final year on the PDC circuit.
Another former Lakeside Champion – Jelle Klaasen – is in action as he meets Welshman Nick Kenny in the afternoon’s opener, while Croatia’s Boris Krcmar faces Suffolk’s Stephen Burton.
Former UK Open champion Andrew Gilding has been drawn to face Sweden’s Johan Engstrom, while former World Grand Prix finalists Brendan Dolan and Dirk van Duijvenbode go head-to-head in arguably the stand-out fixture of the afternoon session.
Former Euro Tour event winner Krzysztof Ratajski plays Host Nation hopeful Dragutin Horvat, as Poland’s Krzysztof Kciuk takes on Welshman Robert Owen.
Northern Ireland’s Mickey Mansell meets Matthias Ehlers – who was beaten 6-5 by Jeffrey de Zwaan in the German Grand Prix earlier this year.
The action gets under way from 12pm GMT, with First Round ties to be contested over the best of 11 legs.
