Rowby-John Rodriguez enjoyed a dominant defeat of Gerwyn Price at the 2022 European Darts Matchplay in Trier on Sunday, as ten seeds were sent packing in the Second Round.

Top seed Price saw his quest for a second European Tour title of the season ended by 2021 World Cup finalist Rodriguez – who averaged 96.8 and landed four 180s as he punished just 20 per cent on the doubles from the Welshman.

Rodriguez will now meet home favourite Gabriel Clemens in Sunday’s Third Round after the German number one edged out Daryl Gurney in a deciding leg with a 98.5 average, four 180s and a high checkout of 156 to his name.

Meanwhile, Scott Williams continued his sensational spell of form by knocking out world number eight Jonny Clayton 6-4 to bolster his hopes of reaching the World Matchplay for the first time later this month.

Williams, a recent ProTour event winner despite not holding a Tour Card, defied a 103 average from Clayton as he landed four 180s and 55 per cent on the doubles in a polished display.

Dimitri van den Bergh, World Series winner in Copenhagen and Amsterdam over the past fortnight, continued his blistering run of form by averaging 110.8 in a 6-2 win over Germany’s Florian Hempel, which included a 152 checkout and eight maximums.

Van den Bergh will now meet Damon Heta in the Last 16, after the Australian World Cup winner reeled off three consecutive legs to defeat Callan Rydz 6-4.

Premier League runner-up Joe Cullen paid the price for seven missed match darts as Ian White snatched a dramatic 6-5 victory with a 100.5 average.

Germany’s Lukas Wenig delighted the Trier crowd as he followed up an earlier 170 checkout with a roof-raising 167 finish in a 6-4 scalp of Chris Dobey.

Martin Lukeman, a European Tour finalist earlier this year, overcame second seed Ryan Searle 6-4, while Dutch qualifier Wesley Plaisier thrashed a struggling Jose de Sousa 6-1 and Luke Woodhouse overcame Polish number one Krzysztof Ratajski 6-3.

Martin Schindler and Dirk van Duijvenbode were other seeds to be knocked out in Saturday’s evening session as they all lost out in a deciding leg to Madars Razma and Jeffrey de Zwaan respectively.

De Zwaan fought back from 5-3 down to deny Van Duijvenbode in a pulsating contest which featured 12 maximums between the pair.

Rob Cross survived four missed match darts from James Wilson before taking out 104 in the deciding leg of their tie, while Stephen Bunting took out 110 to deny Polish youngster Sebastian Bialecki in another 11-leg thriller.

Nathan Aspinall pulled away from two apiece to reel off four straight legs for a 6-2 victory over Jermaine Wattimena.

Luke Humphries, a three-time European Tour winner this year, defied a ton-plus average from Cameron Menzies to claim a 6-4 win as he moved through to a Last 16 clash with Wenig.
