Czech Darts Open 2022 | Day Three Preview and Order of Play
The sixth European Tour silverware of the season is up for grabs in Prague on Sunday as the final 16 vie for the Czech Darts Open title.
Only seven of the top 16 seeds are left standing at the Královka Arena following a dramatic day of upsets on Saturday.
The afternoon session on Day Three plays host to the Third Round ties, before the Quarter-Finals, Semi-Finals and final take place in the evening.
Adrian Lewis hit the headlines following his victory over top seed Gerwyn Price last night, with the pair involved in a heated exchange on stage after ‘Jackpot’ had sealed a 6-3 win from 3-1 down.
The incident came after Lewis had approached and hugged Price after hitting the winning double, but the Welshman did not welcome his opponent’s embrace.
The pair then exchanged words, with referee Russ Bray stepping in to defuse the situation before an irate Price departed the stage.
Lewis now looks to focus on challenging for a first Euro Tour title in a decade as he comes up against 2014 Austrian Open winner – Vincent van der Voort.
Dutch ace Van der Voort averaged 99.5 in a high quality 6-5 win over in-form Martin Schindler on Saturday and will be keen to replicate that impressive display.
Meanwhile, Michael van Gerwen steps up his quest for a third consecutive Euro Tour title in as many weeks when he faces resurgent left-hander Mickey Mansell.
Van Gerwen has captured the Austrian Open and European Open titles in his last two outings and is favourite to complete the hat-trick, but will be determined to improve on his match average of just 86 in Saturday’s opening win over Host Nation qualifier Vítězslav Sedlák.
Mansell had defeated Jeffrey de Zwaan 6-4 in the opening round with a 97 average and followed that up with a narrow 6-5 win over Northern Irish compatriot Brendan Dolan to end a long wait for a Last 16 spot on the European Tour.
Two-time European Championship winner Rob Cross, who remains without a Euro Tour title to his name, faces a tough test against a rejuvenated Ricky Evans.
Cross, runner-up in the German Championship in March, averaged 99.8 in his 6-2 success over Jules van Dongen on Saturday, while Evans backed up his First Round win over Josh Rock with an emphatic 6-0 whitewash of Krzysztof Ratajski with a 103.6 average.
Jose Justicia’s reward for his shock deciding-leg victory over Premier League champion Jonny Clayton is a show-down with last year’s Premier League runner-up – Jose de Sousa.
Former World Matchplay champion Dimitri van den Bergh takes on recent German Darts Grand Prix winner Luke Humphries in a mouth-watering contest, with the pair having defeated Nathan Aspinall and Martin Lukeman on Saturday respectively.
Dirk van Duijvenbode continues his quest for a maiden Euro Tour title with a tie against last year’s World Cup of Darts finalist Rowby-John Rodriguez – who has already dispatched Scott Waites and Michael Smith this weekend.
Two-time Euro Tour event winner Dave Chisnall aims to follow up Saturday’s 103 average in his 6-5 win over Daryl Gurney when he faces Ross Smith – who knocked out Joe Cullen 6-4 to continue his strong run.
Home hopes rest on the young shoulders of Adam Gawlas as the Czech number one aims to continue his dream run by overcoming world number 16 Ryan Searle.
Gawlas, 20, has defeated Dennie Olde Kalter and Damon Heta en route to this stage, but now faces an opponent in blistering form having whitewashed Ritchie Edhouse with a 107.4 average last night.
The action gets under way from 12pm BST, with Third Round and Quarter-Final ties to be contested over the best of 11 legs, Semi-Finals best of 13 and the final best of 15.
