Baltic Sea Darts Open 2026 | Day Three Preview and Order of Play
The eighth European Tour silverware of the season is up for grabs as the 16 remaining players do battle at the Baltic Sea Darts Open in Kiel on Sunday.
Seven seeds and nine qualifiers remain in the running for the £35,000 top prize at the Merkur Ostseehalle as they lock horns over two sessions.
The afternoon session plays host to the Last 16 ties, before the quarter-finals, semi-finals and final follow in the evening.
Reigning European Champion and World Championship runner-up Gian van Veen resumes his quest for an elusive maiden European Tour title with a tie against former Baltic Sea Darts Open winner – Dave Chisnall.
Van Veen put his patchy run of form to one side to edge out Dimitri van den Bergh in a last-leg decider on Saturday, while 16th seed Chisnall also banished a poor recent run of form to overcome Joe Cullen 6-4.
Ryan Searle, runner-up in the recent International Darts Open, looks to go one step further in Kiel, but faces a formidable third round test against European Darts Trophy winner Wessel Nijman.
Nijman, who has also racked up four Players Championship titles this season, thrashed Krzysztof Ratajski 6-1 in his opener, while Searle saw off Dirk van Duijvenbode 6-4 despite an average of 89.
Ten-time major winner James Wade is bidding to end a remarkable ten-year wait for a European Tour title, and the left-hander aims for revenge against Ricky Evans – the man who knocked him out of the World Championship in a last-set epic last December.
Recent Players Championship event winner Kevin Doets aims to reach a third quarter-final inside five European Tour events at the expense of World Championship quarter-finalist Justin Hood – who averaged 103.4 in a 6-4 win over Max Hopp before thrashing Jermaine Wattimena 6-1 with a 99 average in Round Two.
Having beaten Rob Cross with a blistering 108 average in Round One before brushing aside Stephen Bunting 6-2, in-form Cameron Menzies now comes up against recent Players Championship event winner Luke Woodhouse – who overcame Andrew Gilding in Round Two.
Home hero Niko Springer, the 2025 Hungarian Darts Trophy champion, faces last year’s European Darts Trophy finalist Ryan Joyce – who silenced the partisan Kiel crown by denying Martin Schindler in a deciding leg on Saturday.
The opening match of the afternoon sees WDF World Champion Jimmy van Schie bidding to continue his impressive debut run on the European Tour by ending the hopes of Polish star Sebastian Bialecki – who has already dumped out James Hurrell and Chris Dobey with respective averages of 100.3 and 98.
Meanwhile, 13th seed Damon Heta – a European Tour event winner in 2022 – takes on two-time Euro Tour finalist William O’Connor in another crucial fixture in the race for World Matchplay qualification.
The action gets under way from 11am BST, with Last 16 and quarter-final ties to be contested over the best of 11 legs, semi-finals best of 13 and the final best of 15.
