PDC Order of Merit following the 2025 European Championship | Van Veen enters the top eight
Gian van Veen has surged into the world’s top eight for the first time following his fairy-tale triumph at the European Championship on Sunday.
The 23-year-old captured his first televised ranking title in Dortmund, becoming the youngest-ever winner of the European Championship in the process.
A remarkable display of resilience saw Van Veen battle back from 4-1 down to deny Luke Humphries with a 100 checkout in an epic last-leg decider after surviving a match dart.
The Dutchman’s £120,000 haul sees him climb from 15th to a career-high eighth in the PDC Order of Merit, leapfrogging the likes of Gerwyn Price, Gary Anderson, Chris Dobey and Rob Cross.
Humphries’ run to the final, coupled with Luke Littler’s second round exit at the hands of James Wade means ‘Cool Hand’ retains the world number one spot heading into next month’s Grand Slam.
Dobey, who suffered a second round defeat to Michael van Gerwen, drops three places to 11th, with Price dropping two places to 13th following his first round exit at the hands of Daryl Gurney.
German number one Martin Schindler has moved back above Dave Chisnall and into the world’s top 16 after edging out Chizzy 6-5 in their first round tie.
Ryan Joyce’s debut run to the quarter-finals sees him rise two places to a career-high 22nd, while Cameron Menzies has climbed a further five places to 25th after defeating Anderson to reach the Last 16 on his debut in the event.
Peter Wright, who claimed the European Championship title in 2023, has plummeted 12 places to 30th in the Order of Merit – his lowest ranking in the PDC system for 15 years.
Ricardo Pietreczko has re-entered the world’s top 32 following his impressive run to the quarter-finals on home soil.
Ranking competition continues on Wednesday and Thursday with the final two Players Championship events of the season taking place in Wigan.
