European Darts Championship 2023 Draw | Ross Smith to face Ricardo Pietreczko
The draw for the 2023 European Darts Championship has been confirmed, with Ross Smith set to begin the defence of his title against rising star Ricardo Pietreczko in Dortmund.
The European Championship will feature the leading 32 players from this year’s European Tour Order of Merit competing for £500,000 in prize money at the Westfalenhalle from October 26-29.
Smith, who secured his first major title in sensational style here 12 months ago, has been drawn to face home hero Pietreczko – who claimed his first PDC ranking title at the German Darts Championship on Sunday.
Elsewhere, World Champion and world number one Michael Smith will face Raymond van Barneveld in one of the pick of the First Round ties, while four-time European Champion Michael van Gerwen takes on Latvia’s Madars Razma.
Top seed Dave Chisnall meets Masters champion Chris Dobey, two-time European Champion Rob Cross takes on Dimitri Van den Bergh and newly-crowned World Grand Prix champion Luke Humphries faces Brendan Dolan..
Former winners Peter Wright and James Wade begins their campaigns against Gabriel Clemens and Dirk van Duijvenbode respectively, fourth seed Gerwyn Price plays Irish youngster Keane Barry and Josh Rock and Daryl Gurney collide in an all-Northern Irish contest.
World Matchplay champion Nathan Aspinall starts out against Ryan Searle, while 2022 UK Open champion Danny Noppert takes on current UK Open champion Andrew Gilding.
Recent European Tour finalist Stephen Bunting has been drawn against German number two Martin Schindler and Polish star Krzysztof Ratajski plays two-time major semi-finalist this season – Joe Cullen.
World Cup of Darts winner Jonny Clayton opens up against former Grand Slam champion Jose De Sousa, while sixth seed Damon Heta takes on World Youth finalist Gian van Veen – a debutant in this event.
