David Evans secures Group Three glory in the Modus Icons of Darts Live League

David Evans took victory on Day Three of the Modus Icons of Darts Live League as he finished top of the group on legs difference.

The opening two days of the live-streamed ‘At Home’ event had seen Wessel Nijman go eight matches unbeaten to storm to victory on both days.

However, the Dutch youngster’s dominance was brought to an end as Evans came out on top at the third time of asking with six points from a possible eight.

A BDO World Championship quarter-finalist in January, Evans began the day by whitewashing Andy Jenkins 5-0 with a 97.6 average before edging past Nijman in a last-leg decider.

He was then beaten 5-3 by Raymond van Barneveld – who had earlier ended a run of eight consecutive defeats by denying Nijman in a deciding leg.

Evans went into his final game needing to win by two clear legs to overtake Jenkins, and he powered to a 5-1 victory over Mark Webster with a 99.5 average to seal top spot.

Evans has now closed the gap on Nijman in the overall standings to just two points and is four points clear of Jenkins in third.

Jenkins brushed aside Webster 5-1 in his opener with a 98.5 average and recovered from his whitewash defeat to Evans by beating Van Barneveld 5-2 with the aid of a 142 checkout.

The former World Championship semi-finalist then overcame Nijman 5-2 with a 114 checkout along the way, but was narrowly denied top spot on legs difference.

Van Barneveld’s four points on the day saw him finish in third spot but are not enough to lift him off the foot of the overall table.

The five-time World Champion has a break from play on Thursday, with Paul Nicholson returning to action.
