The final four face off in a quest for Grand Slam of Darts glory in Wolverhampton on Sunday.
Twenty-eight players have fallen by the wayside over the past eight days at the Aldersley Leisure Village, leaving four of the world’s top 16 to battle it out for the Eric Bristow Trophy.
Three of the remaining quartet know what it takes to clinch this title, having done so five times between them, while an in-form Dutchman looks to become the latest new name on the trophy.
The afternoon’s opening semi-final sees 2023 champion Luke Humphries take on three-time champion Gerwyn Price.
Humphries is bidding to defend his title-winning prize money from two years ago and hold down the world number one spot going into next week’s Players Championship Finals.
The 2024 World Champion has lost in the two most recent major ranking finals and is vying to become only the fourth multiple winner of this event since 2007.
After blitzing to the top of Group A with maximum points and notably landing a nine-darter along the way, Humphries defied a freak injury scare to thrash debutant Jurjen van der Velde 10-3 in the Last 16 108.5 average, despite contemplating withdrawing from the event just hours earlier.
He then swept aside 2022 champion Michael Smith 16-8 with a 105 average to reach his fourth major ranking semi-final of the season.
Price has continued his love affair with this tournament by progressing to a fourth semi-final here since 2018 and a first major ranking semi-final since the 2023 World Grand Prix.
The Welshman has never lost at this stage of the competition and is bidding to become the outright second most successful player in Grand Slam history, behind Phil Taylor.
A four-time Players Championship event winner this year, Price recovered from a shock opening day defeat to Ricky Evans by whitewashing James Wade and thrashing Stefan Bellmont 5-1 to finish top of Group D.
He then swept aside Martin Schindler 10-6, before averaging 99.4 in a commanding 16-9 win over his group nemesis Evans on Friday night.
Price has won 14 of his 26 previous meetings with Humphries, though it was ‘Cool Hand’ who prevailed in their most high-profile encounter in the final of the 2023 World Grand Prix.
The second semi-final sees reigning champion Luke Littler continue his title defence and create a slice of history when he faces Danny Noppert.
Victory for the 18-year-old over Noppert would see him become world number one for the first time and the youngest in PDC history.
Littler stormed to the top of Group E with maximum points, dropping just five legs in the process, before thrashing Wessel Nijman 10-4 with a 105.4 average in the Last 16.
The reigning World Champion extended his unbeaten run in this event to 12 matches by overcoming Josh Rock 16-12 in an epic quarter-final with a 105.2 average and is bidding to become only the fourth player to retain this title since 2007.
Noppert, meanwhile, has continued his clinical run of consistency on the big stage and finds himself into a third consecutive major semi-final, and a fourth of 2025.
The former UK Open champion, who also reached the semi-finals of the World Masters, World Grand Prix and European Championship, is now provisionally ranked world number seven after reaching this stage of the Grand Slam for the first time.
After settling for second spot in Group H, Noppert pulled off a memorable 10-6 success over Dutch rival Michael van Gerwen in the Last 16, before thrashing German debutant Lukas Wenig 16-8 in Saturday’s quarter-finals.
The action gets under way from 1pm GMT, with the semi-finals and final to be contested over the best of 31 legs.
