The second set of group fixtures take place at the Grand Slam of Darts on Sunday with a host of high-profile players facing a make or break situation.

Day One of the prestigious ranked major saw a number of big names suffer shock defeats in their opening group game, leaving their knockout qualification hopes hanging in the balance.

The major upsets came in Group D, with both Gerwyn Price and James Wade slipping to deciding-leg defeats at the hands of Ricky Evans and Stefan Bellmont respectively.

Wade squandered a 3-0 lead and four match darts in his defeat and now takes on three-time champion Price in a crucial clash.

Price produced a 167 checkout but was ultimately punished for earlier missed doubles as Evans held his nerve, and the Welshman is looking to avoid a first group stage exit in Wolverhampton since 2017.

Tour Card holder qualifier Evans enjoyed a dream return to the Grand Slam for the first time since 2020 and will look to maintain his resurgent run of form against Swiss star Bellmont – who finished top of this year’s Challenge Tour Order of Merit.

The afternoon session also features an all-Dutch showdown between newly-crowned European Champion Gian van Veen and multiple ProTour event winner Wessel Nijman.

The pair contested a classic in the group stage here 12 months ago, with Nijman coming out on the wrong end of a 5-4 defeat despite a staggering 111 average.

World Cup of Darts winner Josh Rock aims to bounce back from Saturday’s deciding-leg defeat to Nijman when he faces Women’s World Matchplay champion Lisa Ashton – who also pushed Van Veen all the way to a last-leg shootout.

Cam Crabtree enjoyed a dream Grand Slam debut by thrashing Jonny Clayton 5-1 with a 102 average, and the Development Tour star now takes on Danny Noppert for the right to move top of Group H.

World Masters finalist Clayton will be keen to bounce back from his below-par start when he meets German debutant Lukas Wenig – who succumbed to the nerves by squandering seven match darts in the opening tie of the tournament against Noppert.

Eighth seed Chris Dobey and Australian number one Damon Heta battle to take control of Group B following their commanding 5-1 wins over Jurjen van der Velde and Martin Lukeman respectively.

Lukeman, last year’s Grand Slam runner-up, and 2024 World Youth finalist Van der Velde face off in the opening match of the afternoon as they bid to keep their hopes alive.

The evening session sees two former Grand Slam champions go head-to-head as Luke Humphries and Michael Smith vie for top spot in Group A.

Humphries suffered a shock exit in the group stage last year but hit the ground running in 2025 with an emphatic whitewash of Alex Spellman.

Smith, who came through the Tour Card holder qualifier to clinch his spot in this event after a nightmare season, returned to winning ways on the TV stage by overcoming Nathan Aspinall 5-3 despite an average of 88.

Aspinall, runner-up here in 2022, looks to get his campaign back on track at the expense of CDC Continental Cup winner Spellman – who averaged just 77 in a debut to forget.

Reigning champion Luke Littler looks to make it nine wins in a row on the Aldersley stage when he faces Connor Scutt in Group E.

Littler, who is aiming to defend a major ranking title for the first time and become world number one in the process, swept aside Karel Sedlacek 5-1 in Saturday’s opener, while Scutt saw off Daryl Gurney in a deciding leg.

Meanwhile, Czech number one Sedlacek and World Cup of Darts winner Gurney collide in a crucial quest for two points.

Group G, widely dubbed as the ‘Group of Death’, sees two-time finalist Gary Anderson looking to maintain his perfect group stage qualification record as he takes on Beau Greaves.

Anderson has reached the knockout stages in all 17 previous Grand Slam appearances but is on the back foot after a 5-3 defeat to Niko Springer on opening night.

Women’s Series winner Greaves averaged 101.5 in her opening salvo, but it was not enough to prevent a narrow 5-4 defeat at the hands of Michael van Gerwen.

Three-time Grand Slam champion Van Gerwen, who crashed out in the group stage last year, looks to put one foot into the Last 16 when he comes up against Hungarian Darts Trophy champion Springer.

Fourth seed Stephen Bunting aims to recover from his shock 5-4 defeat to Alexis Toylo on Night One when he faces German number one Martin Schindler – who has failed to make it out of the group in five previous Grand Slam appearances.

PDC Asian Championship finalist Toylo now bids to replicate those opening night heroics when he faces European Tour event finalist Woodhouse – who comfortably saw off Schindler 5-2.

The action gets under way from 1pm GMT, with Group Stage matches to be contested over the best of nine legs.
