Bunting casts Cross aside to claim Nordic Darts Masters crown

Stephen Bunting claimed his second World Series title of the season after beating Rob Cross 8-4 in the Nordic Darts Masters final.
The top seed also defeated Jonny Clayton and Nathan Aspinall on Saturday on the way to pocketing the top prize of Β£30,000 at Forum Copenhagen.
Bunting was appearing in his third final in as many World Series events this season, having triumphed at the Bahrain Darts Masters before he was runner-up to Cross at the Dutch Darts Masters.
However, ‘the Bullet’ avenged his defeat in Den Bosch, hitting a top checkout of 104 as he recorded his first victory over ‘Voltage’ in 10 attempts.
“I was wondering whether I was going to win a title again,” Bunting told ITV. “My doubles have been atrocious over the past few months. It’s something I need to work on.
“When you win titles like this against the calibre of players that are playing week in week out, it means an awful lot. I’ve loved coming to Copenhagen.
“I’m really proud of myself these couple of days. I’ve put the effort in, I’ve played some great darts, and I believe I’m a deserving winner.
“There’s something about the World Series this year, I seem to be playing my best darts on it. Long may that continue, I absolutely love the World Series.”

Cross – fresh from whitewashing Chris Dobey and dethroning reigning champion Gerwyn Price – checked out 116 as the first four legs went with the throw.
‘Voltage’ – appearing in his 12th World Series final – then took out 70 after Bunting missed double seven on 88 to break in leg five, though the Bullet levelled with a 15-darter.
However, the momentum of the final shifted after the interval. Cross missed three darts to hold and Bunting pinned tops at the fifth attempt for a crucial break.
The 2018 World champion had a chance to immediately respond, but missed bull for 89 and Bunting took out 104 for 5-3.
‘The Bullet’ built on that momentum with a 13-darter and another break, before landing tops for his fifth straight leg to move to the brink of victory at 7-3 up.
Cross stopped the rot with a 14-darter to stay alive, but it proved a false dawn with Bunting – who narrowly missed bull for a 170 out – landed a 14-darter of his own by taking out 25 to get over the line.
