European Darts Open 2025 | Day Two Preview and Order of Play
The seeded players commence their European Darts Open campaigns on Saturday as the Second Round action takes centre stage in Leverkusen.
Day One of the season’s eighth European Tour event saw Dutch duo Dirk van Duijvenbode and Raymond van Barneveld crash out, alongside the likes of Brendan Dolan and Kim Huybrechts.
The Order of Merit seeds take to the Ostermann-Arena stage on Day Two as they aim to safely progress to Sunday’s Last 16.
The afternoon session features a stand-out clash between European Darts Grand Prix champion Gary Anderson and last week’s Dutch Championship semi-finalist Wessel Nijman.
Anderson, who has also picked up a ProTour title this season, makes his fourth European Tour appearance of 2025 and is tasked with a tough opener against the young Dutch talent – who is set to make his World Matchplay debut in July.
Michael Smith is among the chasing pack bidding to join Nijman in the line-up at the Winter Gardens, and the 2023 World Champion takes on Sweden’s Andreas Harrysson – who landed a 170 checkout en route to a 6-3 scalp of Van Barneveld on Friday.
European Champion Ritchie Edhouse is also in pursuit of a World Matchplay spot and faces a showdown with tenth seed Danny Noppert.
Having finished runner-up in Rosmalen last weekend before thrashing Van Duijvenbode 6-1 on Friday, Niko Springer looks to continue his blistering spell of form when he faces Premier League star Chris Dobey in the evening session.
Reigning champion Dave Chisnall launches the defence of his title with a tie against multiple Players Championship event winner Cameron Menzies – who recovered from 4-1 down to deny Kim Huybrechts 6-4 on Friday evening.
Ross Smith, runner-up in April’s Austrian Darts Open, takes on Canadian number one Matt Campbell – who saw off Alan Soutar 6-4 despite an average of 83.
World Youth champion Gian van Veen comes up against two-time major winner Daryl Gurney, as World Grand Prix champion Mike De Decker meets World Grand Prix semi-finalist Ryan Joyce.
Former Euro Tour finalist Ryan Searle starts out against former UK Open champion Andrew Gilding, while third seed Damon Heta meets Grand Slam semi-finalist Mickey Mansell.
Ten-time major winner James Wade opens up against home hopeful Lukas Wenig, while two-time World Champion Peter Wright faces PDC newcomer Darryl Pilgrim – who overcame Madars Razma 6-3 in round one.
Last week’s Dutch Championship winner Jonny Clayton begins his bid for back-to-back titles with a showdown against European Championship finalist Jermaine Wattimena.
Nathan Aspinall, a beaten semi-finalist in Thursday’s Premier League play-offs at The O2, makes a swift return to ranked competition as he faces Bradley Brooks – who survived five match darts from Joe Cullen in Friday’s opening round.
Germany’s World Cup of Darts duo Martin Schindler and Ricardo Pietreczko go head-to-head on home soil as both aim to continue their love affair with the European Tour stage.
Former Masters champion Stephen Bunting, who finished bottom of this year’s Premier League table, takes on European Championship semi-finalist Luke Woodhouse.
The action gets under way from 12pm BST, with Second Round ties to be contested over the best of 11 legs.
