Luke Littler seals Sheffield crown as Nathan Aspinall clinches Premier League play-off qualification
Luke Littler stormed to a record-extending sixth weekly title of the 2025 Premier League in Sheffield, as Nathan Aspinall confirmed his play-off qualification.
The final night of the league phase saw Littler create further history at the Utilita Arena, while Aspinall completed the last four line-up.
Reigning champion Littler overcame Stephen Bunting, Aspinall and Luke Humphries to claim the spoils in the Steel City and end the campaign with a record 45 points.
Littler will now renew his rivalry with Gerwyn Price in next weeks play-offs, while Humphries and Aspinall also battle it out for the title at The O2 in London.
“I’m very happy to finish top of the table and break more records once again,” reflected Littler, who landed seven ton-plus checkouts across the evening.
“The finishing wasn’t too bad tonight, so hopefully I can continue that at The O2 next week.
“I’m ready for the semi-finals. It’s The O2 – I’ve been there before, I’ve won a semi-final before, but so has Gerwyn.
“I know it’s going to be an incredible night; it’s going to be a sell-out, and I’m really looking forward to it.”
Littler opened the evening’s action with a mesmerising display against Bunting, averaging 114.4 and converting all six of his attempts at doubles en route to a 6-1 drubbing.
The 18-year-old then maintained his remarkable winning streak against Aspinall in the semi-finals, before running out a 6-3 winner over rival Humphries to scoop another £10,000 bonus.
Littler landed sensational checkouts of 155 and 170 in successive legs to move 5-2 ahead, before thwarting any prospect of a Humphries fightback to seal victory.
Humphries, appearing in his eighth weekly final of the season, had defeated Rob Cross and Chris Dobey to build further momentum ahead of next Thursday’s showpiece.
The world number one recovered from a sluggish start to account for Cross in the quarter-finals, while a 106 average saw him power past Dobey – who finished sixth on his return to the Premier League.
Earlier in the night, Aspinall confirmed his place at The O2 for the first time with a 6-2 win in his decisive quarter-final showdown against seven-time champion Michael van Gerwen.
Defeat for Van Gerwen, meanwhile, sees him miss out on the play-offs for only the second time in 13 Premier League appearances.
Aspinall’s victory over Van Gerwen saw him leapfrog Price to finish in third position, after the Welshman squandered a 5-1 lead in his quarter-final clash against Dobey.
The Bedlington ace averaged 109 and fired in eight 180s to complete a sensational comeback, reeling off five consecutive legs in 12, 11, 13, 14 and 14 darts.
