Luke Littler became the first player to win five Premier League Darts weekly titles in a single season as he triumphed on Night 13 in Birmingham.

Littler created another slice of history at the Utilita Arena on Thursday as he set a record tally of night wins since this format was introduced in 2022.

The reigning champion defeated Michael van Gerwen 6-4 in the final to secure another £10,000 bonus, having battled through last-leg deciders against Stephen Bunting and Nathan Aspinall earlier in the night.

“I’m very happy,” reflected Litter. “Obviously, the fifth win, it was going to come at some point, but it’s been a few weeks since I actually won my first game.

“So once I got over the finish line against Stephen, I was confident and then I got away with it a bit against Nathan, but then it was a bit of a rollercoaster.

“I’ve always thought in my head, the first semi-final of the O2, it’s so crucial because there’s not that big of a turnaround.

“To win this tonight, I’m nine points away from Luke [Humphries], so I’m very happy at the minute, and I’m very confident that I’ll stay at the top of the table.

“It’s getting a bit nitty-gritty at four and five with Nathan and Michael, so obviously I’ve done Nathan a bit of a favour there by winning this one.

“It’s going to be a good few weeks watching those guys fight for top four whilst I’m cruising at the top.”

Littler fought back from 4-2 down to deny Bunting in the evening’s opener, before surviving a match dart in the penultimate leg of his semi-final showdown against Aspinall.

The 18-year-old also trailed Van Gerwen 3-1 in the final, but a terrific mid-match burst saw him complete the comeback with five of the next six legs.

Littler had blown a 4-0 lead against the Dutchman in Liverpool a week earlier, but made amends in the West Midlands, averaging 102.5 to seal glory.

A 120 checkout in leg five turned the tide, and the world number two clinched his remaining four legs in 16, 12, 14 and 16 darts to mathematically confirm his place in Play-Offs.

Despite missing out on a first weekly title of the campaign, Van Gerwen moved into the Play-Off positions courtesy of battling wins over Rob Cross and Gerwyn Price.

The seven-time Premier League champion produced a clinical display to overcome Cross in the quarter-finals, before punishing a below-par display from Price in the last four which saw the Welshman average just 80.5.

Price had produced a stirring fightback from 5-3 down to edge out Luke Humphries in a captivating quarter-final, defying a 107 average from the world number one to cement third spot.

Meanwhile, Aspinall closed out a comfortable 6-3 win over Chris Dobey in the evening’s other quarter-final, but was leapfrogged by Van Gerwen in the table following the Dutchman’s three-point haul.
