Ladbrokes UK Open 2025 Day Two Preview and Order of Play | Last 32 face off in Minehead
The 2025 UK Open enters its business end at Butlins Minehead on Saturday with 32 players set to be whittled down to just eight by the close of play.
A frenetic opening day of the prestigious ranking major saw 126 matches contested across eight stages, with a number of big names suffering early exits.
The action will now be held across four stages on Saturday, with the afternoon session playing host to the Fifth Round ties, before the Last 16 matches take place in the evening.
Twelve of the world’s top 16 ranked players remain standing in the competition, including reigning World Champion Luke Littler – who resumes his quest for a maiden UK Open title with a clash against European Championship runner-up Jermaine Wattimena.
Littler defied a 101.8 average, six 180s and three ton-plus checkouts from a vintage Peter Wright to seal a 10-9 victory with a 108.7 average and seven 180s of his own on Friday night.
Wattimena, meanwhile, defeated Ritchie Edhouse 10-6 to gain a degree of revenge for his defeat to ‘Madhouse’ in last October’s European Championship final.
The afternoon’s Main Stage line-up also features world number one Luke Humphries against local favourite Ryan Searle.
Humphries survived a major scare in his opener on Friday night as he battled back from 7-5 down to end the sensational debut run of Women’s World Champion Beau Greaves with a 102.5 average.
Humphries finished runner-up in last year’s UK Open, as well as in 2021, and is eyeing an eighth major ranking title since October 2023.
Searle, whose only major final appearance to date came at this venue at the Players Championship Finals in 2021, began his campaign with a 10-7 success over Adam Hunt in Round Four.
Reigning champion Dimitri van den Bergh steps up the defence of his title with a tie against Premier League star Chris Dobey.
Van den Bergh claimed his second major title here 12 months ago and got off and running with a 10-6 win over two-time UK Open winner Raymond van Barneveld in Round Four, despite averaging just 86.5.
Dobey reeled off seven legs on the spin from 6-3 down to defeat fellow Premier League star Stephen Bunting 10-6 on Stage Two, but is yet to make it beyond the Last 16 stage in ten previous UK Open appearances.
Three-time champion Michael van Gerwen resumes his bid for a first UK Open crown since 2020 when he faces 2018 semi-finalist Robert Owen.
Van Gerwen, whose most recent televised title came at the Dutch Masters in January 2024, opened up with a 10-8 win over a resilient Dirk van Duijvenbode on Friday night, defying a staggering 12 maximums from his Dutch compatriot.
Owen, who enjoyed a landmark run to the Fourth Round of the World Championship in December, continued his impressive form in TV majors by dispatching Niels Zonneveld and George Killington on the outer boards.
The Stage Two line-up includes 2022 UK Open champion Danny Noppert versus 2019 runner-up Rob Cross.
Multiple PDC ranking event winner Josh Rock takes on former European Champion Ross Smith, while 2019 UK Open champion Nathan Aspinall meets 2024 World Youth Championship finalist Jurjen van der Velde – the solitary representative from Round One still standing after defeating Titus Kanik, Bradley Brooks, Keane Barry and Adam Lipscombe on Friday.
Four-time major winner Jonny Clayton looks to back up his crushing 10-3 win over Gary Anderson in Round Four when he faces another Scottish star in Alan Soutar – who whitewashed Callan Rydz 6-0, before overcoming Matt Campbell 10-7.
Multiple major finalist Dave Chisnall returns to action on Stage Three to face Polish number one Krzysztof Ratajski.
Former World Champion Michael Smith, who claimed six of the last seven legs to defeat his Ally Pally nemesis Kevin Doets on Friday night, faces Latvia’s Madars Razma.
Former World Matchplay finalist Mensur Suljovic meets former World Cup of Darts finalist William O’Connor, while current World Youth champion Gian van Veen hosts world number 63 Stephen Burton.
James Wade, the 2008 and 2011 UK Open champion, faces a showdown with ProTour event winner Cameron Menzies on Stage Four.
Connor Scutt’s reward for dumping out Gerwyn Price in an epic decider last night is a tie against last year’s semi-finalist Damon Heta – who thrashed Kim Huybrechts 10-2 in his opener.
German number one Martin Schindler takes on Irish left-hander Dylan Slevin, while World Grand Prix semi-finalist Ryan Joyce plays American ace Danny Lauby – who dispatched Brendan Dolan in Round Four.
The action gets under way from 12.45pm GMT, with Last 32 and Last 16 ties to be contested over the best of 19 legs. The draw for the Last 16 will be conducted live on the Main Stage following the conclusion of the Last 32 ties.
