Betfred World Matchplay 2024 Draw | Michael van Gerwen to face Luke Littler in Blackpool

The draw for the 2024 Betfred World Matchplay has been confirmed, with Michael van Gerwen facing Luke Littler in Round One.
The 31st staging of the prestigious ranking tournament will see 32 players battle it out for an £800,000 prize fund at the Winter Gardens in Blackpool from July 13-21.
The top 16 players in the main Order of Merit are joined in the field by the next 16 highest ranked players from the ProTour Order of Merit.
Undoubtedly the stand out tie of the opening round sees three-time champion Michael van Gerwen take on reigning Premier League champion Luke Littler – one of five debutants in this year’s event.
Reigning champion Nathan Aspinall will launch the defence of his title against debutant Luke Woodhouse.
Rob Cross, the 2019 champion, starts out against Dutch debutant Gian van Veen, while 2023 World Champion Michael Smith faces 2018 World Matchplay winner Gary Anderson.
World number one and World Champion Luke Humphries takes on German newcomer Ricardo Pietreczko in a repeat of their clash at the World Championship last December.
Former World Champion Gerwyn Price, the number four seed, will meet two-time World Matchplay semi-finalist Daryl Gurney.
Seventh seed Dave Chisnall will open up against Polish number one Krzysztof Ratajski, while 2021 Betfred World Matchplay champion Peter Wright meets former UK Open champion Andrew Gilding.
James Wade, the 2007 champion, will play former UK Open winner Danny Noppert, as 2020 champion Dimitri Van den Bergh meets German number one Martin Schindler.
Last year’s runner-up Jonny Clayton faces a blockbuster tie with 2010 runner-up Raymond van Barneveld, while Damon Heta and Ryan Searle collide, with both having reached the quarter-finals 12 months ago.
Former European Champion Ross Smith faces recent European Tour event winner Josh Rock, while former Masters champion Chris Dobey takes on debutant qualifier Ritchie Edhouse.
Reigning Masters champion Stephen Bunting has been drawn to face Ryan Joyce, as former Premier League runner-up Joe Cullen meets Brendan Dolan – who dumped out MVG in Round One last year.
