The race to secure places in the 2024 Betfred World Matchplay draws to a close in Milton Keynes this week.
Following Players Championship 14 at the Marshall Arena on Wednesday, the 32-player field for the World Matchplay will be confirmed.
The 31st staging of the sport’s summer showpiece features the top 16 players from the Main Order of Merit joined by the next 16 highest ranked players from the ProTour Order of Merit.
The top 16 from the Main Order of Merit will be seeded in the draw and will face an unseeded ProTour qualifier in the First Round at the iconic Winter Gardens in Blackpool.
The race for the final remaining places is set to go down to the wire, with James Wade currently occupying the last ProTour qualification spot.
Wade enjoyed a timely run to the quarter-finals of Players Championship 13 on Tuesday, climbing above Kevin Doets into the 16th and final qualification spot after the Dutchman had lost in the Last 32.
2007 champion Wade is bidding to protect his ever-present record in the competition since reaching the final on debut in 2006.
Thirteen of the 16 ProTour qualification places are mathematically confirmed, with the final three places being held down by Luke Woodhouse, Andrew Gilding and Wade.
Dirk van Duijvenbode, Callan Rydz, Mike De Decker can only gatecrash qualification if they reach the final of Players Championship 14 and hope that Wade and Doets suffer early exits.
Cameron Menzies, Jermaine Wattimena and Gabriel Clemens must win Players Championship 14 if they are to have any chance to reaching Blackpool.
Gian van Veen, Luke Littler, Ricardo Pietreczko, Ritchie Edhouse and Woodhouse are all in line to make their debuts in the historic ranked major.
The draw for the 2024 Betfred World Matchplay will be made on Thursday July 4 at 12pm BST and will be broadcast on Betfred’s social media channels.
