The European Darts Open reaches its climax in Leverkusen on Sunday as the 16 remaining hopefuls battle to be crowned champion.

A £30,000 top prize is on offer at the Ostermann-Arena as 11 seeds and five qualifiers collide over two sessions.

The afternoon session plays host to the Third Round ties, before the Quarter-Finals, Semi-Finals and final follow in the evening.

One of the stand-out fixtures of the Last 16 sees Dutch duo Raymond van Barneveld and Gian van Veen renew their rivalry on the European Tour.

The pair have met twice already this season, with Van Veen prevailing in both the German Darts Grand Prix and International Open.

Van Barneveld pulled off a terrific 6-4 win over world number one Luke Humphries in Round Two, while Van Veen overcame WDF World Champion Andy Baetens by the same scoreline.

Michael van Gerwen resumes his quest for a first PDC ranking title of the season when he takes on Ryan Searle – winner of a Players Championship event earlier this year.

Van Gerwen saw off Irish youngster Dylan Slevin 6-4 in a match dominated by missed doubles on Saturday, while Searle dispatched Daryl Gurney by the same scoreline.

Reigning Masters champion Stephen Bunting comes up against Owen Bates – a player entering uncharted territory on the European Tour.

Bunting was forced to dig deep to deny Host Nation qualifier Kevin Troppmann 6-4 despite averaging 85, while Bates has already taken the scalps of TV title winners Joe Cullen and Danny Noppert to reach the Last 16 for the first time.

Dave Chisnall, the number two seed and six-time European Tour event winner, faces a tough test against Dutch ace Kevin Doets.

Chisnall is yet to progress beyond the Third Round in any of the seven European Tour events this season, but got under way in Leverkusen with a deciding leg success over Luke Woodhouse, averaging 101 in the process.

Doets followed up his First Round win over Nico Blum with a 6-4 victory over 15th seed Ricardo Pietreczko – a result which moves him into the provisional qualification places for the World Matchplay next month.

Former World Champions Michael Smith and Peter Wright go head-to-head, with both looking to turn their fortunes around on the European Tour this season.

Smith whitewashed an out of sorts Rob Cross in his opener, while Wright overcame in-form Ritchie Edhouse 6-3 with a 97.5 average to reach the final day of a European Tour event for only the third time this year.

Former Masters champion Chris Dobey meets Australian number one Damon Heta – who averaged 100 in a 6-4 win over Dom Taylor on Saturday.

Eighth seed Josh Rock continues his bid for back-to-back European Tour titles following his recent Dutch Championship triumph as he takes on ninth seed Ross Smith – runner-up in April’s European Grand Prix.

Dirk van Duijvenbode’s reward for dumping out defending champion Gerwyn Price is a showdown with home hero Martin Schindler.

Van Duijvenbode is bidding to go one better than his runner-up spot here last year as he continues his recovery from injury, while Schindler is eyeing a second European Tour crown of 2024 to add to his International Open success.

The action gets under way from 12pm BST, with Third Round and Quarter-Final ties to be contested over the best of 11 legs, Semi-Finals best of 13 and the final best of 15.
