Nathan Aspinall will miss the Players Championship Finals for the first time in six years after opting out of the final Players Championship events of the season.
Aspinall has featured in only 13 of the 26 Players Championship events so far this year, amassing just £10,250 in prize money in the process.
That has left the Stockport star £6,000 adrift of the provisional qualification places for the Players Championship Finals, with just two events remaining before the cut off.
However, the reigning World Matchplay champion has opted out of Players Championships 29 and 30 – which take place in Barnsley from November 1-2 – and will therefore miss the Finals in Minehead.
The field for the £500,000 televised major, which takes place from November 25-27, is formed solely of the top 64 players from this year’s Players Championship Order of Merit.
Aspinall had made five consecutive appearances in the event at Butlins Minehead since 2018 but had failed to make it beyond the Second Round stage.
The world number six is among a number of notable names below the cut off line going into the final ProTour double-header of the campaign, including two-time World Champion Peter Wright.
The likes of Steve Beaton, Mervyn King, Mensur Suljovic, Alan Soutar and Richie Burnett also have work to do if they are to gate-crash the top 64 on the Players Championship Order of Merit.
Gary Anderson is set to be the top seed for the Players Championship Finals, with the First Round draw based on finishing positions on the Players Championship Order of Merit.
