PDC Order of Merit following the 2022 European Championship | Smith climbs to career-high spot
Ross Smith has climbed to a career-high 20th on the PDC Order of Merit after securing an historic first major title at the 2022 European Championship.
Smith became the latest new winner of a televised PDC ranking event as he claimed glory in Dortmund on Sunday with an 11-8 victory over Michael Smith in the final.
The 33-year-old, who had never previously been beyond the Quarter-Final stage of a PDC major, picked up £120,000 in prize money and has risen eight places to 20th in the main Order of Merit.
The triumph also secured ‘Smudger’ a place in next month’s Grand Slam of Darts and moves him within sight of the world’s top 16.
Meanwhile, Gerwyn Price has reclaimed the world number one spot less than four weeks after being leapfrogged by Peter Wright.
Wright, who won the 2020 European Championship, needed to reach at least the Semi-Final stage in order to remain world number one, but was beaten 10-8 by Ross Smith in the Quarter-Finals.
Price suffered a shock 6-4 defeat at the hands of Rowby-John Rodriguez in Round One and is gearing up for a crucial World Championship campaign at the end of the season – where he is defending the £500,000 title-winning prize money from two years ago.
Rob Cross and Luke Humphries have climbed above Jonny Clayton into seventh and eighth respectively, while Danny Noppert moves above Gary Anderson into the top ten.
Chris Dobey’s fine run to the Semi-Finals in Dortmund has seen him climb four places to 22nd, having also reached the Quarter-Finals of the recent World Grand Prix.
Ryan Meikle and Andrew Gilding have both moved up four places to 45th and 46th respectively following their debut appearances in the European Championship.
Josh Rock’s remarkable rise continues as he storms a further 11 places into 55th after reaching the Last 16 on his TV debut, just a week after picking up a first Players Championship title.
Rowby-John Rodriguez is up seven places to 60th, while Ian White drops out of the world’s top 32 after failing to qualify for the European Championship.
Devon Petersen, semi-finalist in 2020, drops four places to 37th, while Jamie Hughes and Maik Kuivenhoven fall seven places to 53rd and 66th respectively.
Steve West, quarter-finalist in 2020, is down eight places to 76th and at risk of losing his Tour Card at the end of the season, as Jeffrey de Zwaan also drops outside of the top 64.
