World Seniors Darts Championship 2024 Draw | Thornton to face Turner at the Circus Tavern

The draw for the 2024 World Seniors Championship has been confirmed, with Robert Thornton launching his quest for a hat-trick of titles against Martyn Turner at The Circus Tavern.

The third staging of the over-50s event will feature 32 players competing for £200,000 in prize money at the iconic Circus Tavern in Purfleet – the former home of the PDC World Championship.

The tournament, which features a host of former World Champions, major title winners and qualifiers, will take place from February 15-18.

Thornton, the number one seed, is bidding for a third consecutive crown after going back-to-back in 2022 and 2023, and the Scottish star puts his unbeaten record on the line against debutant qualifier Turner – who reached the Third Round of the recent WDF World Championship.

Meanwhile, 16-time World Champion Phil Taylor begins his final campaign at the Circus Tavern with a showdown against German debutant Manfred Bilderl.

Taylor recently announced that this will be his last year of competing in televised events, and the Stoke legend is looking to land his first Seniors title, having finished runner-up in two previous events.

Leonard Gates, the number two seed, starts his pursuit of a fourth World Seniors title with a tie against Northern Ireland ace Colin McGarry.

Gates is the reigning World Seniors Champion of Champions, Masters and Matchplay champion and was a semi-finalist on his debut at The Circus Tavern last year.

Three-time BDO World Champion and former Premier League champion Glen Durrant will face former PDC world finalist Mark Dudbridge in Round One for the second successive year.

Three-time BDO World Champion Martin Adams, runner-up here in 2022, takes on two-time Women’s World Master Deta Hedman.

Ten-time Women’s World Champion Trina Gulliver has been drawn to face former PDC World Cup winner John Henderson, while four-time Women’s World Champion Lisa Ashton meets Welsh qualifier Mike Huntley.

Scott Mitchell, the 2015 BDO World Champion, will play qualifier Matt Clark in the opening match of the tournament, while another stand-out tie sees multiple major finalist Terry Jenkins face Paul Hogan.

Local favourite Richie Howson bids to go one better than his runner-up spot 12 months ago, and ‘The Owl’ opens up with a fixture against three-time World Champion John Part.

Former Players Champion and PDC world finalist Kevin Painter faces a tough opener against Scotland’s Jim McEwan – runner-up in last year’s World Seniors Matchplay.

Keith Deller, the 1983 World Champion, is the number 15 seed and will open up against 1995 BDO World Champion Richie Burnett – making his World Seniors debut after dropping off the PDC circuit at the end of last season.

An all-Canadian clash sees former World Seniors Master David Cameron face Jim Long, while former World Trophy winner Darryl Fitton faces two-time Lakeside semi-finalist Chris Mason.
