World Seniors Champion of Champions relocates to Portsmouth
The 2025 World Seniors Champion of Champions will take place at the the MODUS Live Lounge in Portsmouth next month.
Previously held at VIVA Blackpool in 2023 and 2024, the event has been relocated to the Live Lounge and will feature 12 players battling it out for the title on Sunday June 29.
Speculation had mounted over the tournament’s future, with the previous two stagings having taken place in March, but a third edition has now been confirmed, featuring a host of decorated darters.
The field is headed by defending champion Richie Howson – who defeated Andy Hamilton 13-10 in last year’s final to claim his first televised silverware.
Howson is one of nine confirmed players, with one invite still to be confirmed and a further two spots up for grabs at a qualifying event in Newbury on the weekend of June 21-22.
Former Lakeside Champions Steve Beaton, Martin Adams and Neil Duff also feature, alongside reigning World Seniors Champion Ross Montgomery.
Multiple major winners Mervyn King, Simon Whitlock and Robert Thornton will also be in action at the intimate, 96-capacity venue, which hosts the MODUS Super Series from Monday to Saturday each week.
WSD Chief Executive Jason Francis said: “We are really pleased to be able to deliver the Champion of Champions for 2025.
“The event has always been a favourite on the Seniors calendar, and we are delighted to confirm a date and venue, and that the MODUS Live Lounge will play host”.
“We have been working hard behind the scenes to be able to confirm details for all of our flagship events, and further announcements will follow. We all can’t wait to put on a show in Portsmouth and crown this years’ Champion of Champions.”
World Seniors Darts underwent a rebrand last November, implementing a number of changes to its original structure, including scrapping all World Seniors Tour events and handing over the running of qualifying events for televised tournaments to the ADC.
The age criteria for World Seniors events was also lowered from 50 to 45, with greater emphasis placed on inviting established former professionals to televised tournaments.
Earlier this year, it was announced that the World Seniors Matchplay was set to take place from June 27-29 and the World Seniors Masters to be held from August 8-9.
However, no further information has since been provided with regards to either event, and Live Darts understands they are set to be either rescheduled or postponed due to various factors including rising production costs and venue suitability.
Broadcast information for the Champion of Champions is set to be announced in due course, and it is understood the one-day event will be streamed online.
